I have had several new Toyotas over the years and have been waiting to get a new 2016 TRD OFF-ROAD. I have been reading several post about the vibration problems and the hood flapping in the breeze. I have test driven several tacomas in the last few months and found these to be real problems. Why can't Toyota fix the simple problem with the hood? If they can't fix that what chance do they have with the vibration problem. I really want this new truck, but if they can't fix these 2 problems I will have to buy something else. I have talked to several dealers and they all deny both of these problems. Wake up Toyota!!!!

1st year production usually has their share of issues, wait a year, or go get a 2nd gen...

They're probably working on it already. It takes time to work the bugs out.

Some people have this issue and some people don't. I am one of those people who do not have this issue. Maybe it's an early build quality problem that has been resolved?

I test drove one delivered from the factory this week. It had both problems. I understand the vibration problem may take a while to fix. But the hood problem has been known for a couple of months and they still haven't fixed it.

Speak with your wallet......Don't buy a truck with issues you discover on a test ride....ESPECIALLY at MSRP many are paying

You really need to learn your Toyota history..... they had real issues in the 70's, 80's and 90s when everyone now says those were the heyday of Toyota production and reliability. Two piece bed construction in he 70's and 80's that would rot away a few years after purchase, single stage red paint that turned orange at the blink of an eye,

3.0 V6 head gasket failures, recalls dealing with the spare tire carrier rotting off, frame rust splitting relatively new trucks in half, unintended acceleration recall (Tundra), leaf spring failures, Taco lean..... the list goes on and on for trucks earlier than the 3rd generation. You know, the models people say are better than the third gen.

A little failed sealant on the hood causing vibration, whistling noise due to holes in a control arm and an eager shifting transmission that can be corrected with the ECT button are nothing.

BTW, I loved every Toyota truck I've ever owned, warts and all.

I could deal with the hood glue problem. The vibration is not the hood problem. It appears to be transmission or manifold related problem. See the post on this forum. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/unusual-vibration-at-certain-rpms.397620/

Go post in those threads. No need for a new thread about issues that already have dedicated threads for them

I took part i the head gasket recall back in the day. My truck started missing and I took it to a Mechanic who told me one of the cylinders was leaking,.

That's what made me stick with Toyota, They paid for two head gasket replacements at 80K miles. Who does that? Not Ford Not Chevy not Chrysler. They would gloss over it and claim warranty expired. (as well on even safety issues)

I had an issue with the 3rd gen with noise and was ready to dump the truck when the solution was discovered..

That said, Toyota is not the same company they were in the 80s and 90s. A tad more "pulling of teeth" to get them to even acknowledge an issue.

Why should they? They are selling every truck they make. Most in this forum seem to be purchasing at MSRP despite the reported issues.

We early adopters understand we are the real beta testers and if we find issues Toyota won't solve, the market will be there for used 16s for sure. THIS is why I refused to pay MSRP and worked from Invoice. I am far less likely to pay MSRP for a new design as I would for a road tested design.

I believe I can sell my truck and not lose a small fortune even at a $3000 discount from new MSRP. Thankfully my issue was solved by assembling a group of like owners off the forums with the same issue trying all kinds of solutions while pressing Southeast Toyota for at least an acknowledgement of the issue. Something they "officially" refused to do.....and as far as I know still won't.

Yep, my 91 was just beyond the 100K cutoff for a new engine but after 10 years, the old girl was starting to get a little long in the tooth so I still sold the rolling chassis for $2800 and promptly bought another, the 99.

Are they perfect? Nope but to me they've been better than the rest regarding reliability and as a company that would stand behind their product when it fails.

I still see brand new frames behind the dealerships where I live being installed on 10 year old trucks. Who else does that?

Hey OP I like your user name. I hope you never actually buy a Toyota and like it. It might get old posting about a vehicle you like with a user name like that. But then again, it does appear that you joined the site today just to trash Toyota. Follow the advice above and post in the hood vibration thread or the unusual vibration thread if you truly want info about those issues. And if I'm completely off base simply ignore my observations and trash away.

I'm not trashing Toyota, I just want them to fix these problems so I can have a great truck. Not 1 that vibrates your hands and feet to sleep. It will be easy to fix my user name.

I think you are putting too much into reading about the issues on the forum. Sure, some issues exist, but overall, those issues don't seem to be affecting a majority of the trucks. I have just over 1,000 miles on my OR, and no real issues. The hood sealant will have to be fixed, but otherwise it's perfect.

If you have reservations, wait until the '17's come out. I'm sure the issues will be mostly fixed by then.

I've never really been one to drive a 4WD truck on AT tires 75-80 mph and not expect a little bit of vibration.
