ok well i got it all mounted up but can not get the thing to turn on

 

Did you have the ignition wire connected?

Looking for a little feedback, pros/cons. I have an ARB twin compressor I will be installing soon. Was thinking about cutting off the 2 40 Amp fuse holders and using an 80amp breaker instead. I spend lots of time in remote areas and don't want to rely on carrying extra 40 amp fuses. Probably will need to lengthen the harness for how I will be mounting and routing everything. Was thinking I could just add the breaker next to my Aux fuse panel, Driver side back of engine compartment, then just run a bigger gauge wire from my Aux battery to the breaker. Any thoughts? Thanks.

 

No that is a bad idea. Those 40amp fuses each serve one of the two compressors. Youd potentially damage them by not having the 40amp fuse for each one. One could be going bad and pull 40+amps which could damage it while the other one is only pulling 20amp so not enough to trip the breaker.

You would be much better off having to 40amp breakers if you really wanted a breaker. Or you could just pick up two fuses and toss them in the glovebox and not worry about it. I havent really heard of anyone blowing fuses with these before

 

Good points thanks. Hadn't thought of the situation if one failed. I was also trying to keep the fuse or breaker closer to the battery, figured I would need to relocate the 2 fuses anyway.

 

Theres no problem relocating the fuses closer. Just dont combine them into a single 80amp breaker is all.

Bluesea does make a resetable 40amp breaker though!

I had seen those. Just trying to keep the engine bay area wiring and additions as clean and tidy as possible. Had a good spot for adding one breaker but not two. I think I will just end up wiring along the front of the engine bay instead of the back and use the fuses. Pick up 2-4 extra fuses incase and be good. I have heard from other people that fuses don't blow very often with these compressors.

 

Look around, there are several plates that mount over near the brake booster that have plenty of room for what you'd like to do. You can buy or build your solution.

 

I was thinking of the Pelfreybilt style plate which has room for 2 breakers. I already have a home made plate that fits just one which goes to my Aux fuse panel, I could easily make a new plate that fits 2. In the future I'll probably upgrade to a Bussman setup just don't have the $ now.

 

Finished my setup today. Twin arb compressor mounted where the side cubby was. Cover still fits with slight modification. Homemade hinged swing down mount for the tank, and homemade manifold for the front locker.

 

What are you using to hold the tank in?

Sorry, I didn't see your post. I used 1/8" thick strip steel that I shaped to the tank. I used rollers from a atv winch for the swing down that's welded to angle iron. The angle iron is welded to the spare tire support.

 

How are people mounting quick disconnects to your bumpers? Can you drill a whole in the bumper and use some type of bulk head fitting to tighten it up?

 

I just got some 1/8" aluminum, cut it to a small length, drilled a hole through it in two spots, undid a bolt and attached it, then attached a QD.
