I like being off the ground, and not worrying about waking up in a puddle. The mattress is pretty cush, at about 3". Setup and tear down is about the same I think.

If you get the annex, it'll give you a good spot to get dressed, take your shoes off, whatever.

You can keep your blankets in there, that's nice too.

You could look around for a rental trailer and try that out.

What does that have to do with a RTT?

They come with RTT? In otherwords, you get the tent on a trailer with no need to mount it to the truck. Plus storage and a variety of things you might use to convince the wife camping is well worth it.

Safer from what? Are you worried about bears entering your tent? If so, this might not be the best argument for me since I'm trying to convince her that we could put the kids down in the annex while we slept up top lol. We have 4 kids and there aren't any tents I've found that would hold 6 people up top.

Oh ya, that would be sweet. I didn't know anyone rented such things. I'll do a search. Anyone know of anything in Southern NV area? Thanks man.

There are others, I'm certain. But definitely not cheap. On the otherhand, neither is buying a RTT and the stuff needed to support it :)

All I know is I wouldn't pay that much haha. Unless someone comes to change the sheets, make the bed, and there is a complimentary breakfast .

Look at the CVT McKinley...it's pretty big.
And safer from bears yes....or when my elk and moose friends stop by to cuddle in the middle of the night. I figure the RTT won't fool them completely but at least I won't get stepped on. And if I need a quick exit I can always jump out the tent and through the sunroof in Runner!

The CVT Mt. McKinley's bed area is 7'x8'. Depending on how old your kids are you might fit.

what sold it for me was being in camp and one guy had a camel spider inside the tent, the next night one was found under the tent and I found one hiding under the tire the next trip.

I'll dig up the old pic of it but you only need to see one in your lifetime to commit to never sleeping on the ground ever again.
Showing her a picture of one should be enough.

You'll find pics of the crazy middle east ones- the ones that are actually here in the states are smaller but just as ugly and aggressive.
