I googled 2017 Toyota Tacoma moonroof and a couple of the articles said the 17's had a moonroof option and nothing about it being tied to a package. Let's hope that's true, I sat in at 16 and had about an inch to spare. I really don't want a moonroof but I want the tech package.

You can get the tech package in the access cab and it doesn't come with a moonroof. Thats what I ordered.

I know this is kind of irrelevant, but I didn't want to create a thread about it. For those of you who have purchased a 2016 tacoma (double cab models) with the premium and technology package, is it possible to get it without the moon roof or is it mandatory?

Everything you get with the P&T package seems nice (dual zone climate, heated seats, rear parking sonar, BSM, colored bumper, RCTA), but I would prefer not to get the sunroof...just seems like another thing that could break. I read somewhere people were having leaking issues with it being installed incorrectly or something with the seals.

Either way if you're a taller person, seems like without the sunroof you have more head room. So either opt out of PT package (double cab), or get the access cab with PT (doesn't include moon roof i'm pretty sure)

Nope. Either you get the P&T and get a moonroof on a double cab, forego the P&T and get a double cab with no moonroof, or get an access cab and P&T to get all the gizmos without moonroof. Those are the options. Kind of a bummer for tallies or those that don't want he moonroof. Personally I want the moonroof, but I am 6'-2". I test drove both and liked the additional room without, and tested the moonroof twice. On the second drive I thought, ok, maybe i can make it work. I want to rent one so I can use it for a full weekend, a ten minute whirl really isn't enough.

I am coming from a 1984 RX-7 - I kinda hit the roof there too, so maybe I'll be fine.

Gotcha, thanks. Hopefully toyota will be able to change the packages in the next model year or so.

Headliner in the prem/tech moonroof hit my head as well. So annoying during several test drives. I ordered one without as a result. No issues now. Toyota dropped the ball on this in my opinion.

Thought update all the tall drivers with sunroofs. This seemed to work great for me. I'm 6'2" in height and always felt and unable to easily tilt my head left with the seat in the normal upright position without hitting the edge of the headliner sunroof inset. I dove into the project to see if the void between the track and headliner provide a significant increase in space and how I did it. It was a quick and easy fix. See pictures below.

The seat rails modification didn't not seem like a feasible option without heavy modification and permanently making the seat in a low position and void the safety structure of the seat.

You will notice with the sunroof hardware, there is still a large void from the sunroof visor track (aluminum track shown ) and curve inset headliner. This area is held by velcro tabs. In the background you will see foam structure that appears to only be used to prevent caving in the headliner or firming the linear structure.

NOTE: My thumb is toward the back of the sun roof visor on the driver side. About 1 1/2" void for some reason. This drop in headliner is not in 2016 Tacoma's without the sunroof.

    6yjneq_89163bbccbb26e0a45250eb46ed551a8d935178a.jpg

NOTE: After bending the tab, I used a regular kitchen knife to cut in to foam, I broke the piece out in about 2" squares till it allowed the headline to move up into the void space.

    30kd6o0_89ea9514463856f2c9e2a0e84436dda033c05759.jpg

NOTE: I spent maybe 10-15 minutes pushing in on the headline to help form the headliner to easily reattached at tab point. I didn't have 3M velcro at the time, so I used a non permanent hot glue solution. You can see how much the void is closed up where I hot glued the tab up to the aluminum track. This resolved 100% of my problem. Even my wife signed off on how well the job looked afterward. I can always bend the tab over and connect it back to it's original position is necessary. I did not experience any change in sound or anything from removing the interior foam pieces. Sunroof still 100% operational.

I decided not to pull the entire headliner, but if your not a do it yourself kind person, your local car interior mod person could do this for you in a much more professional fashion I'm sure. Because my headliner is black, I don't even notice the change in the shape of the head liner.

Hope this helps out a few of us that didn't notice this initially Tacoma 2016 headliner restrictions with the sunroof.

that seems like a good idea motogeek, I was wondering if you could post a picture from the bottom looking up at the moon roof. How is it holding up?

Holding up fine. My phone doesn't take a good picture, just shows the sun roof and headliner, you don;t see any contour like you can from my side pictures above.

okay glad to see i'm not crazy. I tested trucks w/o the sunroof, when one was in stock that was TRD DC 4x4 I jumped to purchase it. I'm 5 11" so my head doesn't touch, but thought there was more headroom. Stupid sunroof.

hey, wondering how this modification is holding up. I am going to have to either do this mod or send back the Clazzio seat covers. IF you were going to do this mod again is there anything different you would do or suggest. Glad to see someone else tackled and solved this problem. I am still unsure what to do. I have been fine with the moonroof until I installed the clazzios... but I didnt have a spare 1/4 to 1/2 inch to spare and now that is gone. thanks for your post

I could do it again, I would skip the sun roof. My head still rubs. I have to put me seat back enough to clear still. The mod I did just helped a little.

I’m 6’2”+ and the first Taco I sat in had a moonroof, I had one fingers width of space between my head and the roof so I told the salesman no moonroof for me. I ended up getting an access cab which are moonroof free so problem solved.
