I cannot seem to get a handle on the front end space when pulling into a parking lot space. I always leave about 3' of space and have to get back in and move closer....After 1800 miles one would think I would have a good idea of the space in front.

Of course it hasn't. You have the 2004, which is known for not having a "pig nose" that you can't see over

Yup...that's what the camera is for...and if you don't want to back in, pull in and then throw it in reverse and see where the parking lines are on the camera...if you're still 3ft into the lot pull in a little.

lol, I have issues with the rear camera. the perception is way off balance compared to my 4runner and the previous 12 Tacoma backup camera. I have to use the red line to even be close to the mark. if I use the other lines im sticking out about 1 foot more than I should.

on the other vehicles, I never have to use the red line to backup into a spot.

Do you need to know, or care?
Back in most of the time, but yes, when I pull in forward. Then add that stupid front plate to the equation! Getting use to it now, after 1100 miles city driving.

I am at 100 miles with this issue. I am short the front end is too long, the window sill is too high and the arm rest on the door is too low. I will bend and get use to it but I am looking for a front bumper cam. The rear bumper cam works well for me.

Been doing this for years. My wife thinks it's stupid...so it must be genius.
In all honesty though, it is way easier to see when you're going in reverse, try it an see. You may never look back, figuratively speaking.

HA I thought only Vette owners backed in. But yeah I back into my driveway. Should adopt that for all parking lots

Working on it myself. I had my CrewMax Tundra for 6 years and I could put it exactly where I wanted it within about an inch. Now I'm parking all over the place since the Tacoma is shorter and narrower. Slowly getting used to it. I also had a large grill guard on my old truck that stuck out about 6", so being too far away wasn't really an issue. Trying not to plow into things was the hard part there.

I'm also a big backer-inner if you will due to my past experience. I also gravitate towards the lesser populated areas of the parking lot when possible.

Only place I can't back in are within the city on non private lots, as it's illegal to back in to a space.

Lots of Semi drivers usually try to back into a parking spot at truck stops. I always thought it was easier to back INTO a space then back out of a space.
