Johnson valley is pretty awesome, but I recommend at least another truck go along. Stuff gets intense fast there.

 

Anyone know where I can buy a piece of 3/16 steel plate that I can use to make a transmission skid?

 

Industrial metal supply is probably your best bet to get what you want.

You can do their online quote and just pick it up will call.

They aren't the cheapest but the price is pretty fair for small qty

Go up Coxey road out of Apple Valley,(top of Cajon pass) check out youtube. It becomes 2N14 and ends up at Fawnskin in Big Bear. Without snow and ice it's 2WD compatible. Fun road to explore then go have a burger in town. Also access into Holcomb when there is no snow.

Dirt & Mud . I really haven't tried dunes or desert yet, although I think I'll enjoy it after I get the hang of it. Snow is my biggest iffy, I really do not have much experience driving in it. I did offroad in some slushy snow once when cleghorn was covered though, few fish tails hahahaha.

After big bear a couple weeks ago I learned you don't decide where you go when in deep snow lol. If I got off trail then steering was not an option. Kinda steer with throttle and then your tires catch and shoot you in another direction. Good times. If you're in 4wd then it's easy but I know ur 2wd and that's when it was the sketchiest.

 

Just takes practice. You're already learning the good tricks though so you'll be fine. Most people when they can't get the car to turn freak out and stomp the brakes which is bad. What you're talking about is the correct way to do it. Just gotta watch it on the slick stuff because you'll fish tail.

I've freaked out a few people coming the other way by doing that haha

Dirt and mud hmmmmm well you have been in those spots like Gorman and Cleghorn. Most places we have visited has dirt and mud. Well when it rains anyway. I have a feeling your going to like Ocotillo! This place is the shit. Has all to offer and when it rains there its another world. Washes appear out of no where and as long as its not heavy it can be fun.
Also scary at the same time because of the unpredictablity.
