Did you try putting a heat gun to those seals to get them to lye down a little more?

got any non-closeup pics? that does look pretty off-kilter, but you're saying that was your doing and not a design flaw?

Did you see a noticeable difference from one set to the other?

I received my X2 today and was wondering how the rubber seals were on your rails? Mine are straight and not like the previous pictures of the X2 rails posted earlier.

mine were straight too. I just pulled them off a bit and took a little time to adjust them slowly by dryfitting. worked just fine. Come spring I may pull the rails off and run a bead of caulk or rv silicone under the metal rails to seal against the plastic bed caps a bit better.

I got my revolver today. My rails and the seal are straight too. After dry fitting, I'm fairly confident that these will work. I'll post pics later.

Received the weather stripping from Bak today. Will install on the next non rainy/snowy day. Hopefully it works. I don't really know where to put it...no instructions or anything, just a roll of weather stripping. Instructions were pretty unclear about the piece of weather stripping in the front too. On top of the head rail? On the back side of it? Where??? Bakflip G2

That looks better! Finish looks more matte and the ends look like they are cut clean and painted... at least in the photos so far.

Yeah, I was expecting a lot worse from reading this thread. It appears they worked out the problems. Fit/finish is nice. The rails seem so much more robust in person.

Never mind last post...I braved the rain for a bit to try to get these seals replaced. I took the drivers side rail off, brought it inside, peeled the old(not right) weather stripping off, rolled out the new stuff, and immediately noticed a problem...I only had 1.5 feet left over after doing only one rail. It appears they sent me only enough to do one side of a long bed. I cut it to length, put it on the truck, and bolted it down. It "appears" to seal and fit WAY better than the old one.
So, now about the short roll of weather stripping...I call BAK and explain to the guy that they only sent me about 6.5 feet...clearly not enough to do both rails. He said he would overnight me the correct stuff. So now I wait... He also told me that the thick bulkhead seal may not even be necessary, and to try it without it, because I told him that it was sitting up about 1/2 an inch in the front.

So I mounted it without, and it appears to seal better now...I'll have to wait till I have the new seal for the passenger side rail, and I'll re-water test it. Hopefully seals well...I have a 1600 mile trip coming up that I'd like to put items in the bed, but they need to stay dry. May put them in sealed containers just to be sure.

I'm also going to squeeze a dab of RTV black silicone in the front bed corners where they meet the rails. Just seems like there are 4 different pieces coming together there and are prime for water intrusion.

That is what Chris Ryan from Undercover told me during our conversation on the phone yesterday. He told me they also recommend using silicone where these foam seals come together up front.

And... he also told me "All covers are weather and water resistant, not water proof."

My G2 is suffering from this also. Keep us posted on how it works with no bulkhead seal. I was going to try and source a thinner one but like the sounds of none at all.

If you look at the corners in the original photos you'll see the weather stripping on the drivers side hangs over the end of the rail but the passenger side is just shy of meeting the end of the rail. I've fiddled with it some more today and got them as closely aligned as I'm gonna.. the problem I discovered is the weather stripping isn't precisely aligned or same length so it's not a perfect rectangle and therefore I will never achieve perfect alignment. Its very minor and you'd have to be looking for alignment to notice it now.

If you have any DIY experience with truck stuff it should be a cinch. Two things I'd note.. First I had to push with force to get the rails to mount on the truck properly once the S clamps are installed in them; it made a dull snap sound and then I was able to use their long screws to lock them in. You may need a bit driver extension if using a ratchet or use a screw driver style bit driver to put the short screws into the OEM rails. Second there are lots of fine metal particles on the Revolver out of box.. I'd recommend using gloves and goggles until its installed and cleaned. I got some tiny particles in my finger but got them out.

Based on a comment below.. you may not want to install the white taped weather stripping to the cab rail cover (bulkhead). It does raise the backside a little and creates a notable gap in the back corners of the rail.. theres still a gap even if you don't use it, but its much smaller.

I'm waiting for the replacement weather sealing kit from BAK.

No I don't own a heat gun. I figure in a couple of months it will sit flatter on its own if heat compresses it.. Florida will get back to the 90s very soon =(

I readjusted it so unless your looking for the misalignment you won't notice it much. At the end of the day the cover is not a perfect rectangle because the weather stripping isn't even across the edges so perfect alignment ain't gonna happen.. at least not with mine. I'm ok with how it sits now.. just concerned about big water leaks from the large gaps created by using the 3/4 weather strip. Also I didn't take off the padding off the rail end since the Tacoma specific instructions didn't say to.. but the BAK generic videos suggest you do since the Tacoma has a plastic liner.

Yeah, these look in perfect condition.. the previous set one was bent and both had the weather stripping partially pulled out. Other than that the design is the same.

    Straight

Did you use any of the red taped weather stripping that came with the package?

They sent me two different sized weather stripping. The instructions were not very clear on how to apply these to the bulkhead. It says to use the 1/4" if it has a bed cap and to use the 3/4". Take a look at the pic below, a38ad5403b89c19ba5b7a48a08cae0e2_99e2c4eb57515f7657fe3272d87d3db95b05b886.jpg

I used the thinner one with the red backing. They are both 3/4" wide but one is about 1/2" thick and the other about 1/4". It still sits a bit higher than I like. I may just go sans weather stripping. It may actually be a better, watertight fit.

Here's how I used the other weather stripping:53c1f938f9ec629d47a6bdedf7e0fa55_4449bfa51dd922c0bae8c31d12d3a661e8f2051d.jpg

My F1 delivered yesterday. Hopefully get it on today, but it also snowed a foot yesterday, and I need to get the truck clean and dry before I attempt an install.

Will report with pics on the install.

Come on BAK! Don't let me down!

I just received the new "roll of 17 feet of weather stripping"(as the guy at Bak told me the replacement was) to replace the stripping on the rails.
1st I'll say, the stuff definitely appears to seal much better than whatever the garbage they sent originally on the rails. This stuff, even in freezing weather, has contoured itself to the plastic bed rails.
2ndly I'll say I don't think Bak Industries knows what the heck they are mailing out. Today, they sent me about 8 feet of weather stripping. I told the guy, the 1st time, they sent me enough to do one rail, plus about a foot and a half or so(6.5 feet). This time it was enough for one rail, plus about 2 feet(7 feet). Either way, whatever they are sending- they think is enough to do both rails on the short bed, but it's far from that, please be aware.

When it warms up above freezing and I wash my truck I'll do another water test. It's 22 degrees out right now, I'm not going near the hose.
