This may be a no go at least for me. There are some places on the trails that would be absolutely dangerous covered in snow. I.E. cliffs and drop-offs with dangerous rollover potential. A dusting of snow might make it interesting, but a lot of snow would probably make it impassable and dangerous on some of the trails. What do you guys think? There is some easier stuff that we could do, just not sure it would keep us busy for two days. I guess we could play it by ear?

I was going to ask you how safe things looked for this weekend...

I checked snow reports and it looks as though there is just shy of half a foot in the RRG area... so drifts and ditches will be significantly deeper.

I don't know how popular of a suggestion this will be.. but the following week/weekend it will be warm enough that most if not all the snow will have disappeared. Thoughts?

As long as you don't back out completely. I'm mainly going to finally camp and get outdoors for more than a few hours.

What about the rest of you guys, what do you think about postponing the RRG trip until the 19th to 21st?

I think that the issue Greg raised is that snow will hide the hazards, whereas when they're wet you can still see them and choose not to drive off cliffs.

I talked to that FJ guy and he agrees. I will see if he is okay with the next weekend. I am, it might actually work better for me to be honest.

I'll have to check those dates, about to cook dinner, I'll get back to you guys.

There aren't a lot of spots that are muddy. The rock is sandstone, so a lot of sand and rocks. There are places that get muddy, but thats not the issue. Stuff that is challenging when wet is one thing. Snow and ice can be just dangerous. I think you'll understand after you have been there. Gavins also spot on, when you can't see the natural line of the trails and where the heck your going its just not smart.

I can't do next weekend, I will be leaving for Cali Sunday morning.

I guess I'll do whatever Greg does - obviously he would be dragging us around down there so if he doesn't go then I'm not going to go there blind.

I'll find something else to do this weekend if it's a no-go.
