BenWA's 2005+ Power Sliding Rear Window Quick Install Kit

@adio the switch fits well and has the needed room behind it for the length of the switch. It sticks out a little but I already expected that as it is not a flush mount style, you actually need it out a bit to be able to push and pull the switch (rocker style).



I am going to wire it up so that one push automatically opens it all the way and one pull auto closes it. The nice thing is it will act as a relay, do the one touch auto open and close and if wired properly can also open the window for you from outside the truck by holding down the lock button on your key fob which might be handy during the summer.

 

I wonder if BenWa would consider a group buy..what group size would be worth his while

Anyone know how much these kits were selling for? Trying to get an idea for diy and sourcing parts.

No idea, I was a little late to this party so missed out on any kits. Luckily there are bits of information available so we can piece these together ourselves. I'd probably have bought a kit if they were still for sale. Not really sure how much of a PIA it will be to run the cables and make sure they are properly tensioned... that would have been nice if it was some plug and play solution.

Alright so I have started assembling parts but here is my big question, do I need to get a bracket for the rear window fabricated or is there a bracket that fits from another vehicle?

 

Haven't seen anybody that had found a bracket to fit. Have to have one made.

 

I just found the design of the original bracket. How much did it cost you to have made?

 

I made my own. Wouldn't think a machine shop would charge much to make.

 

Yups the biggest issue for me when I had done this mod on my 08 AC was putting tensions on the cables. I wanna see what you can come with @Up2NoGood

Benwa open source it so you can get the bracket fab.

For those that's asking if he'll ever make this again that's highly unlikely.

After reading every post in this thread, I've complied what I thought was the most helpful information into post #1500. I believe the links I've shared there contain as close as you're going to get to a parts list / spec. Hope it helps - although I would still recommend reading this thread. If reading 80 pages scares people off - this mod probably isn't for them anyway.

 

I agree... I'm actually going the same direction that you went for a fully hidden unit. Thanks for putting it all in once spot!

 

I don't remember what original kits were going for. I think if you read the early pages of this thread you could find out.

I did this mod last spring for ~$140.
A rough breakdown:

• $25 sliding bracket
• $20 sienna switch
• $5 switch wire harness
• $35 power window motor
• $30 bike cables, sleeve, adjusters to rebuild motor
• $25 misc hardware for mounting motor, cables, electrical connectors, etc.

 

Acka, did you buy a sliding bracket or have one made? I am calling local fab shops tomorrow and curious to what it might cost.

 

I was lucky enough to buy one of BenWA's last bracket's when he found a few left over last spring. I remember seeing others post prices somewhere in this thread from fab shops.
I would expect for a one-off fabrication of a small part like that, the price will be higher than I paid - since BenWA had them made in quantity - but I don't know how much more.

Does anyone else have any idea if something this simple would work? Now remember, I'm not and never claimed to be an engineer or anything as such...or an artist for that matter.

 

There was a version of this and decided the gear and rack isn't great.
