I had an idea to run bed lights under the 3 factory rails and I have no idea how to get the top plastic off the bed. I have a bad feeling if I pry up at it I am going to snap a clip. Has anyone taken off the top plastic bed rails on either side of the truck? if so how did you do it.

It would be easier to run the lights inside the bed rails

He wants to take the bed rail caps off.

I'd just pull them carefully and refer to a 2nd gen thread on how to do so for reference, they're likely the same process.

    Thanks so very much!!

I am going to stick them under the rails themselves. I ordered one of the 4 relay Ride Controllers and was going to use the phone to turn them on and off at night when you wouldn't need to go inside the cab of the truck.

I am planning on documenting the install and posting for advise and critique. I may also be the first one to put "street glow" on the 2016 Taco because why would we.

The ride controller can be found @ http://ridecontroller.com

If you get on a creeper and look up at the inside of the bedside panel(s), you'll see the direction of the way the clips attach to the metal skin at the top.... The bed caps are screwed from the inside cargo bed too.

With the 2nd gens, hundreds have installed bed lighting like you want to... I don't recall anyone removing the bedcaps for that purpose.

I was trying to get easy access to run wiring to keep it as clean as humanly possible.
I will put the truck up on a lift tomorrow morning and really inspect it. I appreciate your input, I can just skip the bed plastic removal then.

I took my side rails of just yesterday (sold tonneau and swapped rails with the buyer), they come up super easy. You can tug on them, there's minimal risk of snapping a clip, but it could happen. The safer way would be to use a panel pry tool to coax the clips. Anyway, there's not much space between the rail cap and the metal if any, I don't think I'd want to run any wire there, much better routing under the bed.
