I have been reading through the posts about low transmission fluid levels and found the procedure to check the Second Gen transmission, but I'm having trouble getting my 2016 into trans temp check mode. Is the procedure exactly the same for the Third Gen trans? Also, when you turn on the ignition, I don't see a tran temp light on the dash. Mine also has the trailer towing package, if that matters. The trans does seem to hesitate going into drive from reverse on cold start.

Take it to the dealer. Definitely sounds like your truck would be a poor getaway vehicle without remote stating.

Save yourself a hassle, and just buy Scanguage.. It can be programmed to read Transmission Temp.
On the side note, between you and me I can tell you that you dont have to be in the temp range, but you have to have truck below max temperature.
Oh, and make sure you disable thermostat otherwise you checking only short line.

When shifting to D and N to and fro, the D will blink for a moment indicating that you are in temp check mode. Wait for it to heat up. When the D comes on again, check the fluid level.
Also, don't worry about the thermostat. Factory service manual says nothing about it.

One thing to add, if the D starts blinking, the trans temp is too high to be checked properly. Let it cool and start over.

there is not one.................have to crawl under and remove the over flow bolt. if fluid comes out it is full if nothing comes out then need to add fluid until it starts coming out the over flow hole.

Disappeared long ago. Checking fluid levels are slowly evolving in " lift only " operations. They are like your differentials and transfer cases. The average consumer is best served by looking at the ground where you park.....or if under warranty like many do, don't Fk with it and take it back to the dealer for free ! Btw, do you have a torque wrenc ? Reason number two not to Fk with it. ;-)

I like to ask all sorts of " why" questions too and would about any concerns with the performance.

I still have not been able to get into temp check mode. Any ideas would be appreciated. I jumper between pin 4 and pin 13, shift from drive to neutral 6 times, then to park and no D light comes on or even flashes.

Are you doing this when the tranny is cold..?? If not...let it cool down first...!

The shifting from N to D should be about 1 second in each position before going to the other....

Try it again and be smooth and consistent...you will get it....:fingerscrossed:

Edit... The shift from N to D and back to N represents 1 shift....!! You might have done only 3 shifts.....IE:.. you have to go into D 6 times....

Yes it was cold when I tried it, I'll give it another try. Do you put it in park after the 6 shifts or leave it in neutral?

HOW TO DOWNLOAD THE COMPLETE REPAIR MANUAL FOR YOUR TRUCK DIRECTLY FROM TOYOTA .
I am posting this to avoid misinformation

How to download repair manual from TIS
    https://techinfo.toyota.com/techInf...urce_url=https%3A%2F%2Ftechinfo.toyota.com%2F

The toyota information system contents toyota vehicle repair manual which used to be PDF links, it's now chm mode which is only webpages. I am trying to download the manual for my vehicle in two days and here is the fastest way I figured out.

Please share if you have better idea. I can't make those hyper-link work since they all became image in the pdf files.

    Tools you will need

    Firefox

    PDFCreator

    TIS login account ($15/2 days)

Install PDFCreator, create a new profile, change the Auto-save option; Change the filename to <Title>, update the directory for auto-save. You need create a new printer to use this new profile, which can auto save your pdf to particular folder.

Login TIS and open the repair manual, for the first page, make sure you selected the new PDFCreator printer as your current printer and print your first page, double check the pdf file at the auto-save folder and make sure that fits you want. I took the footer and header off so it looks much nicer.

For firefox, type “about:config” in the address bar and add print.always_print_silent as Boolean and set it to true.

Now, for each page you click on the left, there is a print icon on the top right corner, click that will print a new pdf file to the auto-save folder. For each page, you will need two clicks to save to pdf format.

Go through all your pages and hit the printer icon. You should be able to download the repair manual in couple hours. The PDF files will have the full text title in the pdf file name, which you can easily search.

I got my two vehicles' repair manual done in 7 hours.

The D light will show briefly after going into P and then will not show again until warm. The only time it flashes is when it is over the temp range.

Well, I took my truck to the dealer today, and after a lot of whining, they did check the fluid level. Guess what, it was low half a quart. They acted like this was the first they had heard of this, being low from the factory.
