I have a 2009 dc 4x4. I purchased this truck for the history of good quality performance looks etc.... I have had the rear suspension replaced(tsb) the transmission reflashed (tsb), the dash is peeling paint just above the instrument cluster, the tpms light flashes constantly, tire pressure is good, this is being looked at today. I just expected a little more quality from a good company, that being said I do like the tacoma, hell i've put 25,000 mi on it since june!!!! just wanted to vent!

I think majority of us can totally agree with you.

Quality has gone downhill from previous versions of the tacoma.

Just yesterday I was washing my truck, and I noticed a couple of my wheels were bubbling up on the edges. And yeah...this ticks me off. My warrantee runs out in March and I plan on talking to someone about this. Wheels like this shouldn't be bubbling at 21,000 miles.

Janster, I had the same problem. Took it to the dealership and they replaced the wheels under corrosion warranty. Tacoma quality is definately going down from what I read on TW. My '06 is almost perfect. Gotta get the timing cover oil leak repaired though...

Thanks for the tip!! I know some of the guys have had some nasty corrosion. I think only 2 of my wheels are affected currently and probably bubbling about 1/4-1/2" from the edge. I don't like it either way. I'll try my local dealer (I hate them) and see what they can do for me. If not - I'll drive 30 miles to the other dealership who always takes care of me.

But hey, you've experienced the quality issues yourself.

I have the corrosion on the wheels as well, I didn't notice it until my warranty was up. The dealer wouldn't do anything. But overall my 06 has been great. Yeah I have the weak rear suspension but that and the wheels has been the only problem I have had nothing major. I guess I'm lucky, but I wouldn't have expected anything else from Toyota.

Im curious - seems first gens more reliable and rep. has been built on that. My theory will not be a popular one im sure, but Were those all made in japan? and since then, production has shifted to the us factories and that seems to begin a trend of quality issues. Am I way off base here?

Probably not, I would have to agree about lower quality in U.S. factories.

the cold can throw out the tpms, use the button under your steering wheel to recalibrate it for the winter.

I don't think it has anything to do with where they are built. It has a lot to do with the overall design & engineering as well as the quality of the parts they put in them.

I've owned lots of different flawless Toyotas in the past and its only natural for expecting future toyotas to be flawless. That's what they're known for and why you go back..... so when things aren't so flawless, its much easier to notice it.

We're still better off than majority of what we could be owning (IMO).

I thought 09s didn't have TPMS in the spare.

MaxTacoma, mine were replaced no questions asked under the 100,000 mile corrosion warranty. If the dealership is giving you shit, push the issue or go somewhere else. This is well-known issue. If one dealership replaces it, all should. Don't take no for an answer!! Bubbling is fugugly!!

Good news! Dealer ordered 3 new wheels and I'm getting them installed on Tuesday. For some reason, the 4th wheel is fine.

For you guys with this problem, I *think* the corrosion warranty goes until 60 months regardless of mileage. I haven't yet reached my 3/36.

Totally amazed...my local dealer must have fired all the nasty people. They were extremely nice and no hassles.

I dunno most of those 'issues' are kinda... not. The 3 pack of leafs isn't exactly a defect, yea they're not really sufficent for this truck but in and of themselves... they're not a quality issue. The reflash is just a calibration... again something that shouldn't have happened but not really a mechanical issue. The paint pealing sucks... but I'd also venture to ask what cleaners have you been using on the dash? This is the first case I've heard of it... could be defective but I wanna know what you've been using so I don't use it :D

The TPMS thing isn't really Toyota's fault... it's federally mandated. Personally I hate it, and when mine went off a few weeks ago all my tires were where they should be maybe 1-2psi low (not bad for not looking in over a month and temp changes). It still wouldn't go off, figured it was the spare (08). Took it to discount for an unrelated issue (getting new tires for my other car, rims in the bed) and had them do a rotation and TPMS check while I was there. They found a screw in a rear tire.... Don't knock it that fast, it might not be lying :D
