    Hello all!

I was thinking about relocating due to work/problems at home and was wondering if I can get some input on machinist work in Oregon/Washington. I have some friends in Portland,OR where I can stay for a bit, but before I do something I may regret, I would like to get more info.

Is there a good job market for machinists, either in Oregon or Washington?

Are there any good machinists schools in the area?

Any input would be much appreciated.

    My brother teaches here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HSoI9Unwos&feature=youtu.be

He moved to Seattle from the Boston area to go to work for GE. Then Boeing and then Rolex.
According to him, There is lot's of work and opportunity for guys in this field and that is what this course of study is all about, to prepare you to be employable and deliver students to the companies who are trained to do the work that they seek on modern equipment.

Local companies come to the school to pick from the recent grads knowing they are prepared for what they need. Placement for guys who want to work is close to 100%, and they get paid very well. Good Luck !

Let me know how the search goes. PNW is on my list of next places to live. I plan to relocate this summer somewhere that is not the mid-west.

Not to be a dick Joe, but if you are serious, don't wait to see what another guy will stir up, see what you can stir up on your own.
It's gonna be different for everyone and what one guy finds might not and probably won't be a fit for you.
The school above or one like it is a good start to find your way.

There are a lot of cool and interesting options I'll bet you never thought of or knew you were capable of. Check out opportunities near home now and prepare yourself for your move. Hell, it's wintertime anyway, may as well make it count for something....

    Good Luck out there !

No worries Frito. I have experience in Agriculture, Automation, Construction, Electrical, and a general love for new experiences. I like hearing about successful transitions to different places. I am considering the PNW for big trees, mountains, pacific coast geography and general ability to do whatever you want outdoors within a 4-6 hour drive.
