You clearly don't know how to reply, or there would be something in that quote there.
The engine will run for 10 million miles. Boo hoo that you shorten its life to 9,990,000 by working it really hard. THE REST OF THE TRUCK WON'T LAST THAT LONG ANYWAY, so who the hell cares?

It was corrected Mr. Internet policeman. You can put your little badge away.
The engine will run 10 million miles ?
That has to be a slight exaggeration.

I've had the 2016 4 cylinder now and have a 1000 miles on it. I'm actually really starting to like it. Seems to have opened up a bit. Drove a few of the TRD sports and for me they aren't worth the extra money for what I need it to do. I would definitely buy another one and my earlier comments were premature.

I owned a 15 4 cylinder and now own a 16 6 cylinder. Anyone saying there isn't a huge difference must put around at 25 mph. The six is an absolutely huge difference. Accelerating, highway driving, going uphill, towing, hauling, it's all much much better with the v6. I respect the 2.7 for what it is but it's really time for an upgrade.

Mine just hit 3k and I have been liking it more and more the more I drive it. It does seem to have broken in to some degree, might just be in my head but it feels smoother. Any way around I would buy it again without a second thought.

As far as towing here is some food for thought. Let me start by saying I do not recommend exceeding gvwr, but this very same 2.7 which is put in the Hilux is rated to tow 5000 pounds in other countries.

I drove the V6 today. Significant more power but not necessary for what i use the truck for. The 2016 TRD Sport is VERY NICE.

I hear you. I started out with a 15' pre runner sr5. For me I want to have the truck long term and the v6 was a worthwhile upgrade for me. I towed a trailer weighing 2.8k lb and going up any sort of incline, I was flooring it to go 50-55. I knew I just wouldn't be happy having a truck that didn't have more capability. The 3.5 just loooves to wind itself out. Both good trucks but different purposes for sure.

I think that there will be an "upgrade" soon to it. Probably something with a turbocharger and a bit sportier of a drive.

Acceleration isn't great for sure, but I don't like to drive around like a pissed off teenager anymore anyway. I've actually been pleasantly surprised at how well mine holds 75-80 on the interstate even on inclines.

Just curious was your 4 a manual or auto? Also curious how much of a hit you took trading it in if you don't mind sharing, I get curious about that when I see low mile vehicles at the dealer.

Nobody says that the 6 isn't a lot more powerful. The spec sheet even says so. What we say is that its a helovalot more power that isn't NECESSARY.

The old 4-speed automatic had some pretty terrible gear ratios. Or if it was a manual, then I think you might not have been downshifting or not downshifting adequately. 50-55 can hold safely in SECOND gear, which yields gobs of torque. Typically I find that very steep hill with a very heavy trailer (well over your 2800 pounds) at about that kind of speed, 3rd gear does a really good job.

You can definitely get by with the 4, if you can afford the 6 easily it makes the decision harder. At this point, with the 3rd gens, youre not saving any gas with the 4, just money. As the 4 starts at 24K, you are looking at ~8K more for the 6 with a manual transmission.

I love this engine so far, but it wont take larger tires happily without a re-gear, and anything other than flat ground makes this motor work. Towing wise this motor is speced around 5000lbs overseas, but only 3000 here. So it can tow just fine, but cyclists may pass you when going up hill.

Still, this is a global motor that Toyota has been producing for a long time. It gets the job done. Just slowly.

There is no way on earth I would ever get this motor with an automatic though. Oh the horror.

While the new 6 may not be quite as much of a hog as the old 6, it still isn't up to the 4, which is still considerably more efficient.

I have no problem with my automatic. Rather a pleasure to drive.

The '16 6-speed automatic is VASTLY improved over the old 4-speed, so a lot of the old complaints may not be *as* relevant as they used to be.

Its still an automatic though, which means that it'll rarely ever pick the right gear to run in.

Mine goes through the gears just fine. No hunting dropping a gear. It does as it should. Guess I got a good one.

This is exactly why I bought a 4 cyl. I couldn't afford a DCSB V6 4x4, so I bought the truck I could afford. I had to have a DC since I have a kid and wife. The V6 was an extra $6k and 4wd was another $3k on top of that. Couldn't get 4wd without upgrading to the V6. So I bought a DCSB 2.7 Prerunner and a year later converted it to 4WD. I think I have the only DCSB 2.7 4x4 out there.

Despite what people might think, it does great. Adding 4WD doesn't seem to have affected anything except my ability to tear up the roads in a 30" snow storm (and maybe my resale value, but I didn't buy it with the intentions of ever getting rid of it).

I never understood the resale value idea that people around here seem to have. They are as good perhaps even better on the base model 4 cylinders than the loaded 6s. They are worth less at the same age and miles because they were cheaper in the first place. Percentage wise there is about no difference.

Yea, idk. I was really just talking about the fact that I modded my truck to have 4wd when it didn't come with it from the factory. From what I'm told that diminishes the value, I guess. Would have cost me over $10k more to get 4wd in a DC though. Cost me less than $2500 to add 4wd to my truck. I did a lot of the work myself, but it was a cool learning opportunity.

Where are you getting those prices?

    Base 2016 SR5 DCSB I4 4x2 = $27,125

    Base 2016 SR5 DCSB V6 4x2 = $28,885 or V6 is an extra $1760

    Base 2016 SR5 DCSB V6 4x4 at $31,960 or 4x4 is an extra $3075

    Only $4835 difference between I4 4x2 and V6 4x4, not $9,000 or $10K.

Doesn't matter what the website says. 2 years ago when I bought my truck, I couldn't find a dealer that was willing to sell a DCSB V6 4x4 for less than $31k. I was able to get my DCSB 2.7 Prerunner for just less than $21k. It's not a popular config so they were willing to deal more on it.
