Man, these Pros look amazing. The white Pro, especially that it comes in a 6MT, has me regretting my 4Runner just a little bit.

Nice multiquote. How obsessed are you with how other people think?

You are proving my point. People often care more about what others think than what they would think on their own and buy accordingly no matter what the costs. There is a segment of young adult buyers who cares more about what people think than what they need. If you want to wheel, either the TRD OR or the Pro will get you there. One is mostly about function. The other is mostly about image. You know what? That's okay. It shouldn't offend an impressionable young buyer like yourself :p.

PS - I know you aren't a young buyer but you get the point.
    Cheers

Just FYI, I don't care what people drive. As long as they are happy. However I will call a spade a spade. When Toyota mentioned young buyers with deep pockets, which are their words paraphrased not mine, they were referencing young people who want an image vehicle and have access to huge amounts of credit.

Some can, and some can't. There is nothing wrong with auto loans. All I was doing was making a light hearted jab about Toyota saying they were targeting young people with large bank rolls. Given the ownership of TRD Pro's on this website I would suggest they average owner is young and probably a little loose with their credit. Again, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, but it is comical that Toyota would hide that fact when they know what they make off financing trucks through their own financing arm over long term loans.

Now let's get back to talking about the TRD Pro turd gen  :)

0.5'' offset rims. 1'' Track width Pretty sure the guy said it during the live presentation. Has nothing to do with the actual suspension.

    - The current '16 4x4 model comes with 3.909 in Automatic and 4.3 with the manual tranny

What the hell does car and Driver ever know about trucks?

The only thing I'll ever believe from them is the old, 'IT DOESN'T HANDLE LIKE A CAR"

1 inch wider track width was said. That means 1/2 inch offset wheels

They went with 16 inch wheels because they getting 16 inch Wranglers at a good price from Goodyear. There can be no other reason

Also, that 16 inch wheel is ugly

That's nice. One of the problems with the old TRD rims was that they didn't have more offset which meant you couldn't fit more tire or go with a little more lift without worries about rubbing.

16 > 17 for airing down and offroading. More rubber height = more flex = more contact on rocks. In general of course. The rim is also further from the round and thus a little less likely to take any impacts. I wheel on 17's but I kinda wish I had of bit the bullet and moved down to 16's.

I doubt it's limited slip. They were probably thinking about the Colorado which has a clutchpack between the transfer case and front wheels to allow for some slip. They call it "auto 4WD" and the F150 and Silverado have it as well. It's an additional wear item that is not really a great option in an OR to be fair.

You're talking about a full 1/2 inch, how much difference can that make? A 16" rim is only 8" from center and a 17 is 8.5 from center. That not a significant amount of rubber to make a difference.

I'm talking about Toyotas choice. 16 is better for off roading but the tires they are already getting play a bigger factor to an auto manufacturer

Oh for sure. I have no doubt the tire choice, including brand and tread, had everything to do with cost.

Honestly, I have no clue exactly how much difference it would make. I mean I could do the calculations for air volume, and trust me a 1/2" more radius on the inside of the tire makes a pretty significant contribution to tire volume which is your air cushion, but I don't want to start something over this. Maybe this summer when I finally have everything put together again on my truck I will measure 33" pizza cutter flex on a good rock versus both tires and see how much distance the tread occupies and how far the rim is off the rock in both circumstances. If we went around asking guys you'd find more guys running aftermarket 16" over 17" in my area. Guys pretty much stopped running 15's though because they don't work on modern Toyota's and the tire selection isn't there either.

Lot's of forums talk about this too, all along the same thought pattern:

    https://www.google.ca/search?q=16"+rims+versus+17"+rims&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr&ei=2Ge9VqDtGcmgjwOi1Jog#q=16"+rims+versus+17"+rims+truck

It might be worth mentioning too that I bent a rim in about a 1/4" this year. I think the pic is in my media. Maybe 1/2" would of been enough to just dislodge the bead rather than wreck the rim. Who knows.

Why would they ever go more then 16" anyway. If its a off-road oriented truck there is no reason to go any bigger
