Garage/ Shop heater

I have a 500ish square foot garage and 200 bucks to buy a heater for it, looking for any suggestions on the best options.

Got gets the garage nice and warm fast. Downside is that the less expensive type don't have an automatic thermostat so you have to manually turn it on and off. Don't forget a CO detector too. If you get one on sale, you might be out under $100 with the CO detector too.

 

Just picked one of those up at ace hardware today.

A Nice Wood Stove

A Radiant Propane heater

Kerosene forced air heater.

One thing that makes a big difference is a ceiling fan to push the hot air where you want it.

Nothing like being up on a ladder to bring that point home

They have been picked up over the last 25 years they all work go for different heating needs depending on what I need at the time.

Just what do you need heat all the time in the winter or something to bring the temp up fast for a few hours on the weekends??

I have a 24' x 24' pole barn, so the ground is about 480 sqft. But, it has a lot of open roof area.

I also have a Mr. Heater Portable Big Buddy Propane Heater and i works very well. But, for that size shop you'll probably need two. They are nice because you can hook them to a 20lb tank and they are rated for indoor use; unlike a lot of the torpedo heaters which are not rated for indoor use. And, since these are rated for indoor use, they give you backup heat for the house if it's needed.

I considered putting in wood stove, but unless you spend a significant amount of time inside your shop, the time it takes to get going and warm up is a bit slow. If you're in your shop all of the time, then a wood stove would be real nice.

 

I'm in a 15x12' single bay with 7 foot ceilings and plaster all the way around. Definitely lacking in insulation. Do you think a single big buddy heater would suffice? I'm about to prep to spray epoxy and need to temper the air.

 

I know I am very late getting back to you on this one. But, if you only have a 7' ceiling, I would bet that one of these would be sufficient to keep it warm.

 

Haha. No sweat. Just in time for the next cold cycle here in mass. I bought the big buddy and it got me to 75-85 degrees after an hour or so. Enough to paint the VW at least.

 

Just what I was looking for! winter is coming and I want to be able to work in the garage without ending up like the guy from the shinning!
