LMiller also adds their "sun protection" package for about 1K. Not an option, they do it to all their cars. I won't buy from them.

It is not unheard of to pay sticker price Out The Door (including all taxes and fees) for these trucks in many instances...which pretty much mirrors my experience...so $1172 off MSRP is not that great once you factor in the taxes, TDA, Doc and Delivery fees plus registration. To pay sticker price out the door you need to be getting the truck for pretty close to inventory price after all dealer add-ons etc

Here's the breakdown i received from one of the AZ dealers, not sure if it makes sense:

$ 1,148.00 Cal fees (not sure this is correct) see doc below
    $ 299.00 DOC fee
    $38,559.05 total appx.

I would be curious about this as well. The 2.45% local tax isn't really clear. Have you called DMV on the phone?

Bmonger. This is my analysis. Looks like you already paid the tax in full in AZ already.

My thinking is the local sales tax should be included into base Arizona sales tax. Same for California. Base CA state tax is 7.5% then you add local tax to bring you around 8% or so.

    From http://www.sale-tax.com/California
The state sales tax rate in California is 7.500%. With local taxes, the total sales tax rate is between 7.500% and 10.000%.

I can say the opposite about @Letsgoplaces . Chris promised a vehicle for my parents back in December and when the time came he lost all communication. He forgot how to answer PMs and how to return phone calls.

bwon- I assume your buying from Mesa as the total sales tax there is 8.05%. Santa Barbarba is 8%. So it looks like you paid more tax in AZ than here (.05%). Not much but worth your while. I don't know why your itemized Arizona tax into base+local, but they should be combined when comparing

Nothing yet... Bought it with TWO miles on it!!!
I purchased at Bell Road Toyota through Costco. Figured that was the lowest price for what I wanted. (That damn long bed jacks the price up!)
I purchased with Joey Meyers, and he was very helpful. Their internet mngr Mike and email gal Kiko were on the ball too!

I picked up my truck in AZ January 29th and drove back to San Diego. At the end of the day, was it worth the trouble? To me yes since the dealers in CA were not moving much on price and I hate the "can you come down today" mentality. Did the deal with Camelback over the phone, put down a $500 deposit on a truck scheduled for production Jan 7. I flew to AZ and the dealer picked me up at the airport, we signed the papers and I handed them a check then drove home. They overnighted the Certificate of Origin and other documentation. The discount was truck $1,972 dollars, but they do charge a heavy 400 dollar doc fee. Things to remember, whatever tax you pay will be credited by the state of CA as mentioned above. Wait for the CO because it has the weight of the truck on it and should make the requirement to have it weighed go away (not sure on that, but heard if weight is on "title" you don't have to weigh). You will have to get a smog check (WTF it's a new 50 state vehicle). You do have to deal with the DMV in CA, but I was lucky the one I use is easy when you have a appointment. You will also have to get the truck inspected, AAA can do it if you're a member for free or the DMV will do it.
The above breakdown of fees is right, but there is a weight fee that he didn't include, $80 in my case (just a note, my truck was about 140 lbs heavier on the scale than on the CO) and the Air Quality Management fee is a couple bucks different.

I have paid all CA registration fees and the tax I paid in AZ was credited to the amount I would have paid in CA and since the AZ tax was actually a little higher, I paid no sales and use tax as part of my CA registration. Check out DMV Application for Title or Registration (reg 343), section 7 for the details. Do to my own impatience, I will need to go back to the DMV today. If for some reason things change I'll let you know.

When you do, please ask if use/sales tax refers to total tax collected or just state tax collected. In talking to the dealers, one was saying you paid 5.6% AZ state tax, and 2.45% local taxes. When coming to CA, you'd only be credited for the 5.6% state tax and would have to pay the difference, between the 5.6% and 8% CA tax. Thanks!

Total tax AZ 8.05%, CA 8%....

Called the DMV. ALL tax collected in AZ is credited to CA. In my case, since AZ tax would be 8.05% and CA tax in Santa Barbara would be 8%, i would not pay any additional. In addition, smog is not necessary if the emissions placard on the truck states CA on it, if it just says 50-state emissions, you're SOL and have to re smog. DMV also said if the weight is on the title, you don't have to reweigh. so like he said, wait for the CO.

I used Toyota of Surprise. Salesman was named Graham.
    $750 over invoice.
Keep i mind they add in $400 for window tint. They didn't on mine since I knew about it and asked them not to install it.

OP did you get a truck?
