Rear Leafs...

Who has negative arch..? Just wondering because I have a pretty good negative arch on my rear leafs and I want to do an AAL. The ass doesn't sag that bad but almost every tacoma that I have looked at has the negative arch going on...

 

Yup, most every Runner I see has leaf sag too. My Tacoma had leafs that were pretty much flat, (with slight neg arch) & I had really bad axel wrap, (even with new shocks). I figured the sag was parcially due to having a shell. So I replaced the leafs with Alcans & the ride is really nice now with no axel wrap. I had to do modifications to the tail pipe so it does'nt hit the leaf at full droop. I also had to install a longer rear brake line because at full droop, the stock one was a little tight & I didn't want to find out the hard way out on the trails with no brakes.

 

Will an AAL. Help the leaf sag? A noticeable amount?

 

It might help a little bit but it all depens on the load you carry & how bad they really are. You also have to remember, Toyota truck leafs do sit kinda flat too. When I got my truck, it had only 14,000 miles & they looked & felt ok, but after a few years of wheeling the axel wrap got worse and worse, so I went ahead I changed them out. I'm real happy with the results. Rides excellent now.

 

All Tacomas sag after a while. My ass end still sits a little higher than the front, but my leafs are straight as an arrow....

 

My leafs are straight as well. I have been looking for replacements on Wheelers, but for a set of replacements and shipping is almost $625. I have found another company out in Ohio by the name of General Spring Company, they also sell a set of Tacoma replacments springs for $450 shipped. After Christmas, I will definetly be ordering a set because I have axle warp like a mother.

 

i have negative arch i can put about 500 lbs in the bed and be hitting the bump stops

 

mine are pretty bad too they look wavy

 

Just installed the 4 leaf packs from JC Whitney and am very happy... they actually are produced and shipped from JR Spring... JR Spring has a website so you may check there for direct pricing

At JC Whitney the pair was around $300 shipped...

The 4 leaf pack has given me about 2 inches of lift from where it was sitting... not sure how much lift I have from stock as the rear was sagging... it is a 95.5 with 230,000 miles though....

 

ya i good negative arch, the ride on the freeway to school sucks. maybe after x-mas i will get some deavers

 

I have a negative arch on the driver side... but I also have one of the spring broken and missing on that side also.

 

Yep , Toyotas seem to have a softer spring rate than some others, but thats not necessarily bad I plan on just adding a leaf to the stock susp. (my springs still have positive arc) Because they are a softer spring adding a leaf (or 2) will stiffen things up nicely & still provide a good spring rate.....

 

A spring shop near me will re-arch them for $30 if you remove them and take them in. If I wasn't loosing my truck (rust) in a few months. I would take mine in. Have a look in your area for a Truck Spring shop. Just a thought, maybe another option.

 

Hey guys sorry I haven't been on in a day or so lol... Yeah I just turned 204K miles and she's had a Canopy on most of her life as far as I know. I really don't have a ton of saggy ass I just noticed the other day when I was parked next to a buddy's stock tacoma his rear end was a LOT higher then mine. Then I was hauling two sets of tires and wheels and noticed I was hitting bump stops on speed bumps and whatnot. I think I'm gonna do a full suspension overhaul this winter or possibly summer (I'm in college, money's tight). So you guys think a new full leaf pack is what should be done rather than an AAL. If so I would just get the Billies up front and get a 5-pack rear spring set with some longer shocks.

 

Is JR Spring a good brand? I can't say I have even heard of them...
