The light in the dash still comes on that says cruise control whenever you turn it on , I just cant set it at the speed I wanna cruise at . Does anybody know anything I could check ? Thanks for the help guys .

If your horn doesn't work, too, it's probably your spiral cable/clock spring... I had this same thing happen to me about a year ago (cruise control stopped working, and then horn would't work shortly after). Replaced spiral cable/clock spring, and everything works great again! :)
    Replacing spiral cable/clock spring:
The spiral cable/clock spring is the black and yellow piece at the bottom of the pic that fits into the white piece on the steering column, which then the steering wheel goes on top off, and the plastics behind the steering wheel go around and cover it all.

Check the box under the hood. Its on the pass. side and has a linkage connecting to the throttle body. Make sure all of the vacuum lines are still attached and also the electrical connection is still good.

Is your truck a manual? My 2000 I have to lift up on the clutch pedal to get it to trigger that the pedal is up.

Edit: Just saw in your profile it is manual, it may be this problem.

I have already checked this , there is nothing visibly wrong with it . I may need to try cleaning the electrical connections though .Thanks

    Whoa!
    Good to know

My Cruise Control just refuses to engage sometimes
I always figured it's just an intermittent problem

This is probably what's going on with me too

My cruise worked fine for like 12 years. Then it wouldn't work when it was cold; it would only finally engage after I drove like 15 miles. Then it only worked in the afternoons on my way home from work.

Now it doesn't work at all. The light comes on but it won't set. Horn works, lifting up on the clutch doesn't fix it. I checked the connections on the box under the hood on the passenger's side as well. I even unplugged and reinserted the electrical connector several times in case there was minor corrosion causing a bad connection. No dice.

check all linkages and cables. make sure they are freely moving first. this seems like a physical/mechanical issue rather than computer controlled.

I'll have to try this as well. The cruise on my 2000 5sp doesn't work but the light comes on in the dash.

It worked. A little nudge upwards on the clutch allows cruise to engage.

you can adjust the switch, it seems after a while the clutch pedal starts to sag and comes off that switch disengaging the cruise control.
