So, many have seen that I am parting out my X-runner and on the hunt for a Dcab 4x4. I am very familier with 4x4 Toyotas from 04 and back, but I am doing my research on these new generation Tacomas.

The plan, is for 6" lift, with 35s (12.50)of some sort. I have been doing my HW and Fabtech seems to be the way to go. I also plan to regear the truck to 4:56 while it is down and the lift is going on.

I have been reading up and all the kits say 17" wheel or bigger, but I see some running 16" wheels. I would prefer that if possible.

Since I will be essentially tearing the truck down pretty much right away, I need to decide on what base to start with. I like the looks of the TRD Sport, but I really like the locker option of the TRD Off Road package. I also have the option to just put in lockers when I have the diffs out. Or I could even buy a base SR5 V6 and work with that.

1 - Which base would you suggest to start with?
2 - What 16" wheels will fit ( BS and offsets), I would love to run a 10" wide wheel too.
3 - Common issues when lifting the 05+ ( common rubbing areas?)

Thanks in advance for any input you guys can provide to bring me up to speed.

    Thanks

    Justin

Nobody is ignoring you .... really. I think the amount of information you're seeking can't really be expressed in one response - and perhaps why people aren't responding. There's a lot more to it than that.

Search the forum (upper blue bar).

Like Kristy has said...start with those threads and go from there.

For 35" tires and offroading in mind - I'm pretty sure you don't wanna go any less than 6" lift OR a solid axle swap (majorly indepth). YOu'll wanna search the forum (or google) for more information about those types of suspensions.

In terms of wheels & tires.... again, search the forum or google. Tons of info out there already.

What year vehicle are you looking for? Remember....
The TRD Offroad vehicles will have the e-locker for ALL years.
Some 05-08 trucks can have the mechanical limited slip diff.
The 05-08 TRD Sport trucks will have the mechanical limited slip diff.
The 09+ trucks will ALL have the AUTO limited slip with OPEN diffs.

How wide 35" tires are you going to go with? I wouldn't necessarily go with a 10" wide rim..... unless your tires are going to be a lot wider.
A good standard size...... 8" wide rim with 35x12.50 works well.

Well, maybe I was too vague.

I plan on an 05-08 ( I have an APR x1 and TRD blower to go on it)

I plan for the Fabtech 6" performance kit. and plan for a 12.50 tire/

I am very, very familiar with the suspension for the 04 and older ( I have build 3 4x4s before I bought this X).

The main question I guess, is on the rims, I see some running 16" wheels with the FT kit, I am just searching for what offsets to run, or weather I need to run spacers or not.

And I was really looking doe some opinions on what base to start with. If I am swapping everything , it it really worth it to pay the extra $$ for a TRD package? but thats a decision that I need to make.

but thanks for the response. I didnt think it was being igniored, this forum is flying at the moment and I know stuff flies to the back:)

I am not an impatient person,

I will check out the threads above too

    Justin

If you like the looks of the sport, I would most definitly go with the sport. The reason being, you said you want a locker and you will also be running 35 inch tires. Your best option would most likely be removing the OEM LSD when you're inside the rear re-gearing, and installing an ARB locker. The '8.4' rear that comes with the sport and all other non trd off-road 6 lug tacomas is quite a bit stronger than the OEM locked rear that comes with the trd off-road. The ARB locker is also much stronger than the oem locker. Considering the fact that you will be running such a large tire, I don't think you could go wrong with this option. You will also end up with on board air as a benefit of this, which is always nice.

    Justin,

what up buddy...my suggestion is the TRD OR package...that's what I got and the locker comes in handy especially on those icy days or slushy days in the mud...

IMHO fabtech's lifts are awesome...had it on my 94' toyota...but it all depends what type of 4x4 you plan on doing...while the fabtech 6" is pretty much plug and play other then the fact you cut up the front crossmember you are still limited cause of the IFS...6" IFS lift should give you about 18" of clearance before the rear tire starts to lift off the ground...

regearing is always a must with lifts and tires...it will allow you to gain back your low end power...

eventually I will be running 2 sets of rims/tires...16" will be perfect if you plan on going wheeling more...just for that extra 1" of added clearance...if you do get spacers cause the back spacing or offset is too much look into spidertraxx their stuff is top of the line...I have a set of these when my new rims and tires come in...:)

if you need any more info you know how to get a hold of me...I have all the parts # for both IFS lifts and SAS (solid axle swap) and the prices...I have pretty much built my parts list for both IFS lifts and SAS lifts just cause I'm still undecided which direction I will be going...if money wasn't an option SAS hands down...but I may have to just build up my SAS lift as I get the money slowly...which will take a while...haha
