I love everything about the 3rd gen Tacoma, except that damn minivan engine, and that's the point.

Thats like saying I love everything about apples except how they taste! Again, if you don't like vehicle, don't own one, and don't plan on owning one because of reasons you mentioned, why waste your time here? I do understand you have the free will to do whatever you want obviously, but why would you?

I've owned four Tacoma's. To me, it's still the best truck on the planet. I own a business solely based on building parts for this truck.

Toyota hit it out of the park with the 3rd gen, all except for the engine. Toyota absolutely watches this forum. Maybe they'll give us a better engine option with the next TRD PRO, maybe they won't.

Everyone complained about how slow previous generations of Tacomas were, so you'd think if they were listening they would have made that happen this time around!

I just think most people lose sight of it being a mid-sized truck! And as a mid-sized truck it's meant to tow small or mid-sized loads, and not be a full size. I think a lot of disgruntled Tacoma owners should step up to a full size truck instead of complaining and bashing the Tacoma.

I just think if they're going to come out with a special edition like the TRD PRO, they should make it truly special and give us a supercharger or twin turbos.

All manufacturers do stuff like that, except Toyota. It's frustrating.

Everyone dogging on the engine are only folks who don't own the actual truck. This particular engine learns the driver characteristics over time. I can tell you the power delivery is night and day from purchase date. The reason Toyota has made changes to this engine wasn't to piss off their loyal customers, but because of vehicle regulations with the EPA that are forthcoming. They are working ahead of the game, and ahead of the laws and regulations that will be/have been placed on vehicle manufactures. I read it on the internet so it must be true, just like this engine is slow as a dog even though in all legit comparisons besides an undocumented 1/5 mile drag race the 2016 out performs all previous years.

I came from owning Subarus and they do the same thing. Conservative and not as flashy as the others. Personally Im ok with that, as I am more of an owner who looks for better "real world" applications for my vehicles like value, longevity and durability, ability to do the things I want to do with it like tow a small trailer, get me and my buddies and a truck full of gear to the mountains or trailheads without being a slug and still be maneuverable enough to drive around the downtown of a major city since I work in one, and have a space separate from the cab to haul dirty stuff like a dog, etc. I'm not lifting my truck, not putting bigger tires on it so it can look cool int he Walmart parking lot, not going off-roading with it, etc. I really could care less how fast if goes, because if that was the case I'd get some sort of turbo wagon or something. I just wanted a good overall utilitarian vehicle that's more like a jack of all trades and performs in all aspects relatively well, but knowing because of that it won't be a master at any given task. A lot of guys here though just seem to have very unreasonable expectations from what essentially is a weekend warrior, "lifestyle" truck.

Disagree. It's more like the driver learns the engine's characteristics over time and adjusts to that!

I know why they do it, and I also know that the 3rd gen is quicker than any other Tacoma, but I wish they would come out with a high HP version just once. Every other car maker does it, they can too.

Subaru makes the STI, and that car is exactly my point. Something a little special, something just for fun.

I just Pre Ordered this today... Super White with a Manual Transmission. Hopefully it will be waiting for me when I get back from deployment in September. I can't wait to be behind the wheel of a Tacoma again, I regret selling my 2010 Off Road. Now, I will have to become an avid reader/user of this forum again!

I'm not talking about the STI, I'm talking about their larger wagons. And I still don't think the STI is any kind of 'special edition' and see it more like a normal production vehicle just like all their other cares since they've been doing it forever.
