As I said ... You have a 4 door not an access cab. My truck did not come with your switch.

FYI. Those distributor installed led bed lights can break easily when hauling stuff in your bed. I have seen 2 tacomas with physical damage to these lights (cracked led housing on one truck and another truck had a broken led panel).

Yeah...I can see if you're hauling something like a load of firewood...or something that can shift around a lot. Not an issue for me though.

It's an aftermarket piece. They can hardly change your warranty by making it work the way you want it.

I'm with him. Shouldn't void your warranty. They tell people that for all kinds of stuff, like getting maintenance done elsewhere which is an outright lie. But that being said, couldn't you just leave you door open a smidge while loading. Not the best option but that should keep them on until you 1. Figure out a solution or 2. Drive 36K and then put in a switch.

Out of curiosity....what did they cost you? I paid $55 shipped for them. Didn't think that was too bad. Of course, the install was $0 since I did it.

Yeah...they're bright. But that's good. Besides, they face forward and most of the time you're loading/unloading from the back (tailgate). :notsure:

hmmm I installed these myself...took me a couple of hours routing cabling and running the wiring into the cab. I used a mictuning switch into the blank on the dash...so i used a separate switch/circuit. Yes, it sucks we don't have bed lights by default.

My setup will not void the warranty. Dealers will say anything to scare people.

Ah, i get it...your dealer wired them to the interior cab lights...so yes, they will turn off after 30 secs... The best way is to run a separate switch / circuit. I used the empty fuse inside the cab (the only one)...so they are always "hot" to the switch. I can turn on/off whenever I want without having to hit Accessories, or deal with the 30 sec interior timeout.

Maybe I am missing something but wouldn't the best option for something like this be 12v damp tape and wiring it to the tail light?

do you have any write up or photos to show the termination? I do order the lights already and I want to see how to wire to the switch, can you show me?

Wish I could help but it was a dealer install. You might have better luck finding something from somebody who did it themselves. I expect they did it the simplest way possible: tapping in at the 3rd brake light.

I'm working on my own LED lights for my '16 access cab. I'm going with LED strips, dash switch and relay. The switch is only rated for 3A, so I thought a relay is needed. I removed the unused plug in the dash, left of steering wheel. Ebay had Toyota switches that fit the hole exactly!. The 12v LED strips are double faced taped on back, and are quite bright when I bench tested them. I'm going to place them left side of bed, front and back. Two small holes needed at ends of LEDs to pass the wires through the bed, running the wires in between bed and rear quarter panel. I'll be adding an in-line fuse and find an Hot wire somewhere. The LED switch does have a blue backlight, not sure if i'm going to wire it or not. See photos of parts, and the switch in the dash. The open hole in the dash was that second filler, haven't replaced that yet. Most is in the planning stages, I need to wait till it warms up outside before I really dig in.

Hope this helps anyone installing lights with some options..

    Mrbill

I install mind today, run the wire to the battery and add a fuse to protect the circuit, also add a push pin switch at the gate, so when my tailgate down the lights turn on.

What do you mean, add a fuse what does that exactly mean/where? I am looking to add LED strips along the inside the bed and have a push button for the tailgate as well. Just not 100% confident yet on wiring it all myself.
