I'll probably never sleep in a ground tent again since I have my RTT lol on the beach though it isn't bad

Yea I removed the RTT because I'm working on getting it mounted to the offroad trailer so I didn't feel like messing with it because it's just me and my pup camping. Ground tent is easy as throwing it in the back seat.... Done. I came from backpacking so I really don't mind a ground tent. RTT Is obviously superior but... Ground tenting doesn't bother me a bit. Especially at the beach!

At the beach is definitely nice but I don't like it in the woods. I get an unnerving feeling being on the ground with bears and Cougars around. Had to many encounters with them so I'll take my RTT any night

@JADaus do you have a thread somewhere I could see your bed set-up. I've been wanting to incorporate a place for my dog in the bed.

right now i just have my kennel in the bed...i keep it in place with some friction straps.

i did build a platform for the back seat (i have a DCSB) of the truck though, as here in MN keeping the dog up front is good for when it's cold (like tomorrow, high temp will be 3) and it keeps the wife happy (evidently a hunting dog can't get "cold"...). Happy wife...happy life.

We don't have the problem of cold so much here in Az. But I also have DCSB , but have had to designate a place for our son in the back seat. So it gets crowded.

better to put a dog in a kennel than a kid...less government involvement. :)

i will say i built a split platform...and i do fit a 6 y/o in her booster in the back with the dog. the dog has more room on one side, since i built the split with the seat split...but she ends up leaning on the 6 y/o most of the time, or with her head on her leg.

i do want to build a bed platform like i've seen in this thread with a 2x6 going across the bed and a split sheet of plywood platform to cover it. my plan is to build it with some 1x's so the kennel has a place it can be cradled into it, as well as some tie downs to strap the kennel in (i'm a bit paranoid about the kennel flying away with wind, illogical, i know...). I also want to make some sort of drawer or something under it...which i can lock for firearms. i will take some pics of that when i get it built...in the next couple of weeks/months (depending on weather).

I plan on suspending the drawer from the 2 x 4's that hold up my platform in the bed. As far as my dog goes I either let her hang out on the platform in the back or I fold the seats forward in the backseat of the cab and let her sleep there. I usually don't travel with a kennel

I'm thinking of just doing a platform style like you have @ragincajun35 after I get my camper.

It works incredibly well. I just want a little bit more organization for the things underneath the platform. What I like most about the platform is that I can very easily take it in and out of the truck. I find myself leaving it in more and more though now. It is also much lighter weight than a full drawer system like a truck vault are similar

Yea it seems really versatile. I was thinking of maybe a divider for the bottom close to the tailgate for quick access to needed items (divider would run parallel to the tailgate like a bed extender would)
