    Hey there,

I'm headed down to SD for a couple days for the swell and simply to get out of the snow of Utah (I am a surfer who was landlocked due to work). Was wondering if anyone could help me with this but I plan to spend a few nights with friends most likely, but I am looking to possibly to some camping out of the bed of my truck (a '13 super white). Being I am a surfer and a TW member was curious if A) there were any spots near good surf in San Diego or Orange County that I could either grab some free camping or simply set the tent up in the bed and not be harassed. And B) if there were any good spots to let the truck hit some sand (figured this is more a thing further north but was worth a shot).

Thanks for the help, feel free to send me a PM or post here. Looking forward to the feedback and hopefully I can score some good surf. Also any TW surfers feel free to hit me up.

    Mike

San Onofre and San Clemente are on the SD OC Border so those might be good options. Not free, but I think it probably runs about $20 to stay over night IIRC. Stayed in San Clemente a couple years back. South Carlsbad also has some camping spots.

Also have campgrounds in Carlsbad and Encinitas. They are also not free. Here's the link to reserve a spot. San Elijo is the Encinitas Campground and South Carlsbad beach is the Carlsbad ground.

However, there is a little strip of sand you could probably sleep in the bed in Cardiff-By-The-Sea (it's a little part of Encinitas). It's just above the camp gounds there and you will definitely get woken up by the train once or twice. But you're right by some good surf spots (From north to south: Boneyards, Swamis, Pipes, Suckouts (Cardiff rivermouth), Seaside reef). All really good reef breaks. If you want beach, Georges is just a little further south (across from Los Olas Mexican restuarant on the 101 - like 2 minutes away). Reef breaks do better on medium-low tides and incoming. They generally miss on high tide. Georges is your high tide spot in that area. They are all spots on Sufline's app.

Here's how to get to the little strip of sand. Take 5 south, exit Encinitas Blvd. Head west toward the beach, turn left on Vulcan. Drive through a stop light and two stop signs. You can't miss it. There is about a 1 mile long stretch of dirt parking right next to the railroad tracks. People crash there all the time. If you put a tent up you might have the cops swing in. But I think you could easily get away with sleeping in your bed/cab.

I also suggested silver strand but not sure if you can camp. Any input?

There's a homeless guy who drives an old Mercedes who sleeps in his car there every night (car is always covered with a car cover). I've seen him there every day for the past couple years. He moves the car every few days, probably to avoid being hassled. I've only seen the cops talking to him once ever.

Going to do an Anza-Borregoday trip next week. Whilst researching some trails, ran across some people saying they had purchased off-road stickers for their trucks. Are these necessary for the trails/roads out there?

Not if you are plated as far as I know, you should be fine, the placard is for parking in national parks or a green sticker for off-road if you dont have a plated street legal vehicle.

I'll be camping somewhere in Anza Borrego with my girl(her first time in the dez), haven't decided yet where we want to setup camp. Heading out tomorrow afternoon going to the mud caves and wind caves tomorrow or Sunday. When I'm in my truck I'll be on Weatherman. Have a good Presidents/ Valentines weekend guys and be safe.

Haha yeah man been laying low. Still going to the SCORE races but thats the only real use I get out of my truck other than that it stays parked. Just graduated at SDSU recently and got a full time so hopefully I can start saving up and start tearing into the truck again. Sometime I need to stop by Trac and check out how your truck is coming along. Only real plans right now for my truck is to ditch the MaxTracs and gusset the stock spindles.

Nice, why are you swapping back to stock spindles? Im doing a set of spindle gussets today, as well as a full long travel setup for a brand new 2016.
    BTW, Congrats on graduation buddy!!

    Oh thats awesome....wow.

What are you doing about the larger cams on the 16' ? Does the LT kit actually have the right size bushings and sleeves for the 16' LCA ?
