Exactly, there are people who think buying anything more than something than a civic is a waste of money. We are all big boys, I earn my money and I can spend it anyway I seem fit(wife has input lol). Laughing at other people because they decided to buy your vehicle in a more expensive/different trim is funny. Just be comfortable in your purchase and let others be happy with theirs..

Besides the fact that they are two different model trucks? Pretty much, yeah. Fox (2017) > Bilstein (2015). I don't think the '15 had leather seats either.

I think the TRD pro is perfect for those (like me) who have commitment issues (with cars) who trade cars every 2-3 years. I've learn the hard way that buying a base car/truck and modifying it myself and then trying to sell it in 2-3 years you lose much more than buying an one that's close to what you're looking for. In MY CASE I would like to buy the Pro and not do one modification knowing that that's the way it came from the factory (and everything works as it should) and when it's time to trade up, I should not lose (at least I hope) as much as buying a lower end model and modifying it. IF I were to keep the truck for the next 5-10 years, it would be a different story, but for me, I'm going with the model that is closest to my needs even if its initially more expensive - actually it will depends on the gap - anything more than 7k diff I'll go with the 2017 TRDOR.

By the way - I just got back from my dealer taking back my deposit for the 2016 TRDOR MT and discussed the Pro - they said they think there will be a wait list with the truck probably arriving in 2017 (not fall of 2016) and the cost will be msrp 40k plus (take all this with a grain of salt) plus "dealer adjustment" (read pure profit). If this is true I will just go for the 2017 TRDOR MT.

    To each their own.........

There sure is a lot of moaning and groaning in this thread. I for one was not sold on the 3rd Gen until the Pro arrived the other day. It has leather (which I love and need, I can't stand cloth, especially in a $38k vehicle), A factory suspension that is tuned for the truck and for the type of off-roading I will do, a unique color that I have always liked, and blacked out headlights/tails and no chrome anywhere.

Trust me, if you were to price out these items on a TRD Off-Road it will cost: $800 for headlights, $400 for tails, $500 for grille, $1200 for suspension, $1000-1200 for leather plus install so it doesn't look like crap, wheels will be $700-900.

Right there you have spent almost $5g. I have built and modded before so this coming all together in a cohesive package makes sense for me and a lot of people. Nobody said this will be the best off-roading Tacoma in the world but out of the factory it's hard to argue.

That's the interesting part. At 41k the Tacoma would be about the same as the 4Runner TRD pro. And I think the 4Runner is still the better vehicle.

Remember when they introduced the 2015 Pro and they had these tires?

    2013 Tacoma Pro.jpg
Once they started making the truck I think Toyota put BFG A/T on all of them. Maybe they will do the same thing with this truck. Cool if they put Nitto, Toyo, or BFG Mud Terrain's on them. But probably for the cost of the tire and the mpg that the Goodyear's get, they will stick with the Goodyear. Who knows..and I know Toyota doesn't want to put a expensive tire on the spare tire. They love putting a piece of shit tire on that wheel

and why no option for stickers on the bed with the 2017, like the baja?? First thing I want to do is post pics of my truck on this forum and have 20 people tell me how much they hate the stickers and they would take them off if they bought one..

If I get one maybe I'll get custom stickers made that say Raptor and confuse the hell out of everyone when I'm driving down the road...."Look that's the new Tacoma,..Pro, what is that, front end looks ugly, why did it come with Raptor stickers"

I wasn't talking about performance compared to prior years. I'm sure it will be amazing, except for those Good year tires;)
My statement was about how difficult it might be to purchase.

I've never before seen an argument about whether or not something is a good value without anyone actually knowing the price. Someone above is mentioning they will "save 5k-7k" by doing the upgrades themselves?? How much are you thinking the TRD Pro will cost? I'd expect the price difference to be considerably less than that. I can't imagine that it will cost more than the Tundra TRD Pro which starts at about $43k. I would guess it will start around $38k and maybe will be close to $40k once you add side steps and the toneau cover.

Unless of course it sells for $35,000. :D

But we know that isn't going to happen.

I would not mind having a silver Pro, but apparently that won't be one of the colors. I'm sure the red will be nice, especially with the black leather seats. But no moonroof is a deal breaker for me. My next truck will have one.

I have seen several people say the TRD Pro has leather seats. The press release says leather-trimmed seats. I was watching the vids and it looks like the center strip is fabric. Also I agree with the previous comment, no Homelink, really?

Watch the whole video. They interview the head engineer for the Tacoma and Tundra and he talks about the differences and key features. The first part of the video is lame, but it gets better.
