Tried it today in 4 wheel and come to find out it doesn't do it. I have a feeling you already know.

Hmm, assuming the 3rd gen suspension hasn't changed much from the 2nd gen, I wonder if it's prone to the same diff bearing issues when lifted. Might check with your dealer and see what they think..

Check to see if your drive shaft angles are within spec.

What is considered "in spec" for driveshaft angles?

Looked at a 3rd gen up close today. I think my itch has been satisfied, and I think I'll hold on to my 2011 a bit longer.

The interior is nice, however a little more "hard plasticy" than I expected. The mpg would be nice, but it's not worth trading in my 2nd gen.

Looked at the colorado too. Wow, no comparison. Sharp edges on all the sheetmetal (burrs in some spots even), no ground clearance (and the front LCA's were almost on the bump stops- weird), not as nice on the inside. No "solid feeling" when shutting the doors. Same price as the similarly equipped tacoma I looked at. My Dad really wants one, I'm going to have to convince him to look closer at the tacoma..

You should keep the 2011 until the wheels fall off. 2nd gens are great trucks, and if I had one I wouldn't trade in. Then again I was driving a 98 RAV4 that had been owned since new ... my family has tendency to keep them until the wheels fall off ;)

I don't know what DMFK means ... but I'm a crash safety engineer, and I would say whatever happened in that accident is an outlier. Also, unknown if she was actually strapped in and situated properly in the seat. By and far in every single scenario you could imagine a crash, any modern vehicle safety is leaps and bounds beyond stuff from 20 years ago ... and if you want to see how they compare to those old lead sleds that people think are so safe because they're heavy:

Also, roll-over survivability from today's vehicles is amazing. We trade off decreased visibility due to the reinforced A/B/C pillars, but you can't argue with the results:
The passengers, if wearing seatbelts, more than likely walked away from that with minor injuries ... Vehicles from the 90's would have a caved in roof.

Drove the 2016 last night.. oh man.. Deciding on waiting 6 months till the sales slow down (hah, right) and paying down my loan a few grand since they won't give me what I owe on my 2011. Got pre-approved for $38k at 5%, it's just the negative equity I don't want to sit on. But for a brand new truck for $50 more per month, shoot. That cockpit was cozy!

I drove a 2016 over the weekend. I think I will keep my 2005 for a bit longer.

Wow! That's pretty high. Shop around and see if you can get a lower APR, I got 1.9% on my Subaru loan

I know, my current is 3.2% which is still too high. My Hyundai's were all 0-0.9%.

Seems best at this point to pay down my loan and CC balance to get my debt ratio back up, raise my score and get rid of the negative equity, and revisit this idea in December.

Have you looked at the Canyon? A little bit better in quality than the Colorado, but of course, a little pricier too. No offense to anyone...I should be test driving a Canyon hopefully this weekend. Overall - I will admit, the Canyon does offer a lot more options & add-ons than the Tacoma. It's rather disappointing of Toyota.

I test drove a Canyon. While it was nicely optioned, the interior seemed very plasticy and not as solid as Tacoma. Not to mention you don't see many GMC vehicles with 200,000 miles or that resale after a few years would be less than half that of a Tacoma.

Yea, I thought the GMC looked a lot nicer in photos and videos than it did in person, and I didn't much care for the seating position. I was a bit disappointed by the truck overall. Plus, it didn't come with a manual ...
