how fast can i go with the real locked?(4x2)

it says in the manual to only go ~15?..is that just a safety issue of will it damage anything?..i know its hard to drive with them locked...pushes the front end like crazy.

and when i put it in neutral, hold the traction control for about 5 secs...what does that do? (LSD on or off?) when i do this, the beeping from the TC doesnt beep anymore..but it does make some squeaking noises..is this bad?..i tryed to read as much as i can but cant seem to find the info i need

I assume you mean the rear.

You can go as fast as you want - just don't try to turn. At all. The speed alone won't damage anything, but handling becomes risky and damage is possible with turning.

Since (IIRC) the locker only engages in 4lo, your speed is going to be RPM limited more than anything else.

He's a prerunner, so speed won't really be limited. To the OP: don't use it unless your stuck. There's really no need for it, specially when your mobbing dirt and turning. Use it when one wheel may lose traction and you need the other to spin, such as when crawling.

 

I'm not condoning it or anything...... but......

I've done about 80mph, rear locked, in desert washes... with turns. And it was fun.



Also, the locker is still fine...

 

Turning on sand I agree likely wouldn't be a problem. I still wouldn't make a habit of turns with the rear locked.

same here.
was in ocotillo wells last weekend, got into some soft stuff, engaged the locker...kept it on. hauled ass to the next hill.
since you are a prerunner, you have to be going slow to engage it....but no real speed limit after engaged.
-I abide all toyota restricions and guidelines though

 

Yes, only engage less than 3mph. Myself, I never turn the button on unless I'm full stop. Go only about 3mph or less until it locks (light will stop flashing, and you'll probably hear/feel it engage though it gets smoother over time).

When I'm out in the desert in some rough stuff I usually just leave it on instead of constantly engage/disengage. It's not the best for it but... I'm lazy like that I guess.

 

Pretty much keep it off on grippy surfaces. Sand, soft dirt, mud, loose gravel/dirt...it's all fine

I used to keep it on full time when offroading cuz I hated turning it on and off with every entrance/exit of a technical spot but haven't done that lately.

alot of jeep guys run locked rear diffs. Totally locked all the time. toyota is playing it safe but it wont hurt to run it even on the streets. Itll just rip up your tires.

 

That sucks... another reason for me not to trade up!
