I had an 02 V6 manual and loved it. The only reason I sold that great truck was it was my plan to sell while it was still worth a good chuck and buy a newer one. I'm still kinda bummed that my 13 6 speed doesn't use 6 as an overdrive to get better mileage, but it does pull trailers very well.

Unless those friends live in a cramped metropolis with heavy commuting like L.A. or Atlanta, they're probably wrong. I sold my 2nd gen manual DCSB last summer and it depreciated very little in the 5 years and 30,000 miles I put on it. I had it sold 2 hours after I posted the ad. But it helped a lot that it was in good condition with low miles. It was also paid-off so there was no weird or complicated financial transaction required. A 4WD Tacoma will have good resale regardless of the transmission.

Used car manager's quote last summer on my base 5-speed trade-in:

"Transmission type has no bearing whatsoever on the value of a used Tacoma. Actually, it'll be the fact that it IS a manual that will sell it...though it may take a few more people looking at it before it sells."

I had a 14 base 4wd manual. I lacked the patience to teach the wife to drive it. Traded for another 14 went up to access cab and auto ( still 4 cyl) she has driven the truck 4 times in the last year and a half. Friday I said screw it and put a deposit on an inbound 16 access cab trd sport with v6/6 speed mt. She doesn't know yet. She's been mad before... :)

I didn't think they made v6 access cabs with manuals? Am I wrong?

Cool. Maybe it is the Off road that they don't make in an access cab manual.

This sounds pretty accurate to me. I think it's even less of an issue these days with Craig's list and kijiji, which enable you to reach a much larger target audience. When I sold my 3RZ 5 speed 1st gen, a salesman told me he'd give me $1000 for trade in, or I could probably sell it on kijiji for $2500. I listed it on kijiji and someone offered me $3500 within about 3 minutes. My dad used to work at a yota dealer, and he mentioned to some of his former coworkers that the truck was for sale, and in a couple days, they had a whole list of potential buyers. Ended up getting $4000 for it and put that towards my 2015.

Just averaged 22.4 MPG on my last tank running ethanol-free. That's a 1.5 to 2 MPG improvement for $.04 per gallon more. Nice to be handily beating the EPA estimates!
