I went through this about a year ago. Honestly it sounds like it is that time, she's just waiting on you.

It sucks worse than anything. But you call the vet and make an appointment then do what's best for your buddy. Wait till you get home, then you can break down. But you gotta take care of them, this is part of the deal. How you let them go is as important as how you keep them.

Did you find a pipe anywhere to use for your stuff? To help take it all off and put the rear on?

Believe me so do I. One of the worst days of my life was having to take my baby girl for her last ride. But I looked at it like if the roles were reversed what would she do for me. I couldn't repay her years of selflessness with selfishness of my own. I don't want to be sad is no reason to let my buddy suffer.

That's me, and we all handle things differently. So do what you think is right.

I was lucky. I live alone but I had a foster dog at home from the local shelter. I don't know what I would have done had I come home to any empty house.

IF this were me, and it's not, this is what I would do. I would call the vet and make an appointment to give my buddy the peace they've earned. On my way home I would stop by the local shelter and take my pathetic sobbing ass inside. Waiting in the shelter there is some poor dirty sad mutt sleeping on the floor that wants nothing more than to make you feel better. Don't go in with any preconceived notions of what you want, just go meet them. They'll make you feel better. Maybe you'll find one that can't live without you and you won't have to ride home alone.

That's my 2cents from a crusty old bastard that's been through a lot.

This shaggy bastard saved my ass
