When I do short trips to the store, taking kids to school, etc. - all city driving - my trip summary that appears when I turn off the truck, usually averages about 8 to 13 mpg. Is this normal for these 2-3 mile trips or should I be expecting the 19 mpg that is advertised? These trips rarely allow me to get up to any kind of cruising speed, so I'm guessing this is normal, but curious if others are seeing the same results.

A short trip is not going to be fuel efficient. You have to take in account initial startup, the time for the engine to get up to optimal running temp for the most effecient combustion, and city driving you probably come to a couple red lights. Two to three miles to school, I would walk that, or get the kids a bike depending on the ages. So, I think you are seeing some fairly accurate numbers there.

i do short trips too low mileage reading for me is like 16, mostly 19 or 20 your 8-13 seems a bit low.

There are a lot of factors to consider when discussing gas mileage. Driver habits, temps, warm up times, take off from stop signs or red lights, traffic flow, so many variables.

I'm lucky to see 5mpg on these days when I have to let the truck warm up. Even when I don't let it warm up, 10-12mpg is normal on my short 1.6 mile trip to work

Similar experience. Short trips kill mileage.
