235/85r16

Iv searched and iv come up with very few people who have done this set up and who could post pictures so I just wanted to show everyone what it looks like with 235/85 r16 on completely stock Tacoma. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on buying these tires and so far I'm happy. still in the works for setting proper tire pressure

Do they rub any?

 

daily driving it, no. hard bumps during a turn yes. I'm planning a lift though. but right now the most it will see is a dirt road

I was almost going to get a set of Kenda but got a sale on Cooper instead. What does Kenda list the specs (dia/wid/tread wid/etc) on that tire? Good for snow but that may be the skinniest for a 7" rim. also are they noisy or quiet?

 

All I know is the size of the tire, not specs. it is the skinniest tire you can get for a 16x7" rim. it's currently at the shop for balancing and alignment but when I get it back I'll let you know the rid quiality. so far the tire has a hum. I'm still trying to figure out tire pressure since it is a e rated tire.

I have the same wheels as you. I don't know if mine is 7 inch wide or not. Mine has 225 on it. Here is a pic.

Can you do a rear and front fender to center of wheel hub measurement?

I need to upgrade my tires and definitely considering the ones you have, in your sizes. If I can get the fender to center hub measurement, I will know how much higher mine might be.

 

I'll get you those measurements by the end of the day. So update on these tires. iv put around 10,000 miles on them, tread is lasting great! I drive from SC to FL often and towing a 12ft enclosed trailer. They are E rated tires on a light truck, MTs, and hard rubber compound so ride is not luxury quality. when driving slow probably around 15 mph or coming to a stop I can feel the knobs on the tire tread. I used the tape method to determine air pressure. If you can handle the noise they are not a bad tire for the price. I love the skinny look too.

IF YOU BUY THESE TIRES THEY COME WITH COLORED DOTS ON THE SIDE WALL. I BELIEVE THEY ARE YELLOW OR RED OR BOTH (mine have faded away) BUT WHEN YOU GET THESE MOUNTED AND BALANCED THESE DOTS SHOULD BE LOCATED NEAR THE VALVE STEM. I HAD A PROBLEM BALANCING TILL I HAD A FRIEND TELL ME ABOUT IT. I moved the dots around on the rim and shop rebalanced and good to go. I have read reviews about this tire being a difficult tire to balance. Not sure if this is the problem or I lucked out. Will post new pictures later

 

just looked at my old pictures when I just mounted them. the dot is yellow. that should be where the valve stem is

starting with the front: center of hub to fender 20 and 5/8 inches. rear: 21 and 5/8 inches. hope this helps.

Looks great! I have a few photos in my build thread of 235/85s on my second gen when it was stock.

 

Just measured mine. 225 tires.

20.5 inch front
21 inch rear.

So looks like my overall diameter is same as yours? Which means I will order the same as yours

 

@lotuscupcar what are the other measurements on your tires. those look way too small to be on the truck. looks like someone down-sized the tires for economy reasons, but it doesn't really help at all.

 

A 235-85-16 if you do the math is 31.72 inches high, my stock tire I think is a 265070-16, which is 30.7, so that's 30.6, 1.1 inches difference, half that for the height difference is half an inch taller.
I doubt there is a 225-16 that is the same height as a 235-85-16. If you have a 225-70-16, that would be 28.4 inches or 3.3 inches smaller than the 235-85-16, half that means 1.6 inches taller.

I bought the truck used. I am not sure what the OEM tire size should be on a double cab pre runner.

Current tires are 225/70/16.

My initial measurement was on home driveway. I just went to my parking garage at work, and remeasured, and middle of wheel to the fender liner comes out to
20.5 inch front
21 inch rear


@guzzytacoma seems to have 1" of difference between front and rear height. I seem to have 0.5 inch difference. What is the stock difference supposed to be?

 

Likely more room in the rear for suspension travel. If you have a load in the back, you are already loosing that room since the truck is sitting lower. Also, your front suspension when "loaded" tips in at the top, being independent. Your rear suspension, being a solid rear axle, goes almost straight up.
With a tire that is 1.5 inches bigger, cut your wheels hard left and hard right and see how much room you have before you hit something, and see if you have that extra 1.5 inches. That measurement doesn't allow for wheel travel up and down over the bumps and in turns. Measuring the middle of the wheel to the fender is not as important and measuring how much room you have at the outside of the tire. IMHO.

 

That's what I run - no lift, stock 4x4. I'll post a picture tomorrow. No rubbing, no problems at all.
