almost sounds like a fuel pump issue where it loses its prime but it shouldn't be only doing it when you refuel????

next time your almost out of gas, pull the drain plug on gas tank and drain it to see if there is trash in there that might be blocking the fuel pickup screen

with the first GEN tacos its easy to take off the bed by unbolting it a slide it back far enough to remove canister I bought my canister from Camelback Toyota online best price for OEM Toyota don't get aftermarket. also you could also remove the 3 17mm bolts on the drivers side and loosen the 3 bolts on the passenger side and prop up the driver side enough to get room to remove the canister, I did some searchs on TTORA site on how to remove the bed not hard at all just need 3 guys or 2 strong guys to pickup and slide bed back towards the rear of the truck and let it rest on the rear tires

So the canistersare only under the hood on 4 bangers? What the heck is in that position on the 6er's? Ive nerver noticed it being missing from that spot while looking at the 3.4, i havent ever owned a 3.4 but have looked under the hood at them before. Thats really a bitch to have to get under the bed to get to it on the 6 cylinders if that's true...

no I had a 2004 previously v6 3.4l, had the same issues as OP and was caused by me topping off the gas tank excessively at the gas pump. the stealer in my area quoted $600 labor plus canister part $350 to replace it, so I did it myself by removing bed bolts, unplugging the rear light harness under the truck and me and my bro picked up bed slid it back and let it rest on the rear tires replaced canister then put back together. did exactly the same procedure later to replace the fuel pump.

So do you remeber what you had under the hood on the drivers side fender right behind the fuse box? Was there just a huge empty space there?
