Well my TRDOR M/T cost me 33,650 out the door. If the Pro is 40k than that's 6k difference. If I threw 3 grand at my truck in suspension, tires and a few cosmetic upgrades I'd have a more capable and more personalized Tacoma than I would by buying a pro. Plus I would've saved a few grand. It's just that some people don't want to spend the money/ time upgrading their truck and want to roll off the lot with the upgraded version. To each their own. Every Tacoma is an awesome vehicle in my eyes!

Fair enough, but that doesn't give you the same equipment level as the TRD Pro. The Pro has leather seats and also has the tech package (minus the sunroof) and the JBL stereo. If you added those items to the list of aftermarket upgrades, that extra $3k would slim down quickly.

I would make the case that getting the items you want from the factory will actually save money, provided that the package offered is what you want. If you buy a truck and then replace the wheels and tires, then you have paid for 2 sets of wheels and tires. If your truck comes from the factory with the upgraded set already there, then you are only paying for one set. Same goes for leather seats, suspension parts, or any other feature.

Plus, in my case I would have to pay for labor as I have no tools, no garage, and no knowledge of how to install such items myself. If you say that you will install the stuff yourself, how long will it take you? How much is your time worth? How much do you get paid per hour on your job? And how many hours will you spend on the install?

Obviously not everyone is in the same situation with regards to all of these things, but if you want all of the extras offered on a factory package, you are going to pay less than buying a vehicle without the package and trying to buy all the upgrades afterwards. If you only want a couple of the upgrades, then maybe you have a case for skipping the package and just getting those items separately.

BTW, confirmed that the TRD Pro has a limited slip. It's been mentioned on multiple YouTube reviews, so obviously it was on the spec sheet that was handed out to the press.

It just depends on what you're looking for...and everyone is different. Also you're assuming that the Pro will only cost 40k which we don't know yet. Could easily be more.

Nice leather seat covers can be added for 500$ and look just as nice as factory (clazzio). And when you're talking about tires the PRO comes with the same tires as the TRDOR. No upgrade there. You're mainly getting cosmetic upgrades and nicer suspension.

I would like to see professional drivers compare the TRD OR with the Pro and see how much more capable it really is.

I would rather spend 6k on my truck to get the upgrades that I want and have options rather than buying the upgrades that Toyota likes. But you're right, for guys like you that don't want to put in the effort it's easier to drive off the dealership lot with a decently upgraded truck and be happy.

Agreed but you can always sell the parts like many people do here and get a grand for the tires and a couple hundred for your old bilsteins... Either way the trd pro looks great and the community is awesome here

    Seems so:

While that is not official confirmation from Toyota, I've seen this mentioned on multiple YouTube reviews.

Limited slip what? Transfer case or front or rear differential? If it's in the tangerine case, doesn't that make it All Wheel Drive?

    Here's what Toyota says:

    http://toyotanews.pressroom.toyota.com/releases/2016+chicago+auto+show+tacoma+trd.htm

Every Tacoma TRD Pro will be equipped with 4WDemand part-time 4WD with a transfer case and Automatic Limited-Slip Differential (Auto LSD) that are both electronically-controlled.

I would guess they mean the rear as nothing else would really make sense.

But the rear is a locker. It's not a limited slip and a locker, is it? Do they make a rear end that does both? It also has MTS in the auto, so what will adding a mechanical LSD do that it can't already do with the extra money they threw at MTS?

Maybe they mean the front? Idk I'm confused by their wording. If I wrote that, it would mean that transfer case has an LSD.

Doesn't your OR have the same set-up? Auto LSD and a locker.

They are locker and ELSD. It uses the brakes to control wheel spin. They all do in 2016. The OR gets ATRAC or MTS and CC and the rest of the models get vacuum boosted TRAC

Isn't that exactly what the TRD-PRO spec sheet is calling out? It seems the same as the OR set-up, electronically controlled (brake modulation) Auto LSD and an electronically controlled locker. Maybe I'm missing something.

I believe MTS only works in 4L. An auto limited slip in the rear would be really useful in bad weather when you are not in 4WD and are driving on pavement. I know you guys out West don't get any snow, but us North Eastern people get lots of it!

From what I understand, there is a limited slip in the transfer case to allow AWD/4WD operation. Not exactly sure how it works; weather its user defined or computer controlled.

Don't think anyone owns a 2017 TRD Pro just yet. Or is this available in the non Pro models? Either way, I don't own either.

You care to elaborate what it is and what it does?
