What would be the benefits of having a bed rack underneath your leer cap?
I know of racks that go over soft toppers and stuff but what is the rack gonna do under the cap?

Hmm, interesting. I think whatever style of bedrack you went with, it would have to be the kind that bolted to the corners of the inside of the bed. Couldn't really sit on the bed rails. Never seen anyone put a bed rack under a cap. Please post pics when and if you do it.

Why not add bed bars with a basket on the bars to organize your stuff? Or making a set of drawers? Maybe a list of items that you plan on organizing will give you better results for what you could use. Unless you just want a bedrack under the topper

This^^ because I figure if you put a bedrack underneath, you can only really hang stuff off the bottom side since it'll be right up near the top of the cap. It would almost be like having a roll cage inside your cap.

These Decked storage boxes are very nice. Rumor has it they are working on a model for Tacoma.

I am not affiliated with them, just keeping an eye on them because I want one under my topper.

I thought about the same thing and you'll have to go custom.

As far as why... You can then easily mount stuff on the sides and roof since it's not so easy to mount stuff to the topper itself. Hi lift, maxtrax, rotopax, etc.

As far as how, one option would be for it to just sit on top of the topper ledge that sits on the bed rails and then secure to the factory track. It would need to be split in the middle at the top for it to fit snug to the topper. Forgot what the other option was, but in the end, it would've taken up too much room for me since i need all my bed area for cargo.

Edit, if you didn't need it to be snug to the top, you could probably have a bed rack modified somewhat easily to fit.

Over in the 3rd gen 4runner community installing a 1st roll bar is a popular mod and would be similar to this but the typical items that get attached to the roll bar could easily be done with the bed tracks.

Ive eyed those a couple of times, really don't like the design but the ease of installing would be nice

I would just put a set of @KB Voodoo bed bars in with maybe one of his baskets. I have considered doing it a few times. In all truth, the only thing that will improve storage is to have something at about the height of the bed so you can put stuff on top of it. Any rack that is taller than that wont offer much storage space. Now, it you are trying to tie it into the roof of the shell to improve strength that is another story.

But why mount those items to the topper when the bed rails will work just fine?

If he wants a bedrack under the topper you would bolt it to the bottom of the bed, most use the factory bed bolts. That will allow him to have the tightest clearance and be able to just put the cap over the rack and secure as normal

Thats exactly what I would do, buy his bed bars because they don't mount on top of the bed rails. Ive thought about it because I have 2 yakima baskets from previous cars that I could easily mount on top of the bars and have a second level for storage. Still a possibility but more interested in drawers

Thats exactly what I was thinking was mounting all the stuff on the inside of the rack then a basket across the middle Rotex on the side

Just for extra room down low... Or stuff is already mounted there... to be different? Plenty of reasons why.
