    Hi Everyone,

So just had a great mini road-trip down to SLC - hit 21 MPG on the way down without a cap. And picked up my cap/camper shell down in the city and felt a pretty big loss of power and MPGs dropped down to 18 on the way home.

Could the extra weight and wind affect from the cap have caused this? Pretty big drop, I know obviously there are other variables.

Been a long time since I was in Utah, but I have to ask, were you loosing altitude going down and gaining altitude going back?

I thought of that - there are hills both ways - and yes ultimately there is a 2000 foot elevation loss once you get to SLC

That's going to make a difference. I know driving from Ft.Worth to Amarillo, there's about a 3000 gain in elevation, and it always shows in mileage difference when going east or west. The cap will add some weight and that will make a small difference as well.

What make and model canopy? Some are designed differently, which could effect mpg.

Ha no idea, its probably twenty years old - its too small for the back so basically indents behind the truck cab - so thought that may play a role. I was an English major though so aerodynamics are not my strong suit :D
