Blower motor squeek / chirp on low *FIX*

What I did.
Got the VDO one about a month ago. Wasn't $65.99, like it is listed below. Think I paid more around $45.

Yeah, I thought I had the VDO, but it is a 4 seasons.

 

Thank you for the write up it was very helpful and helped me solve this annoying problem

 

Every time I take mine apart, the fan, and casing is full of leaves ( '11).
Once I clean all the leaves out, noise is gone.
Make sure its clean before you go any further on disassembly

 

Little noise appearing in the aftermarket (4 seasons) one I put in.
Not as bad as the OEM one I took out. Time will tell.

 

Yeah same here I cleaned mine out and I had a ton of leaves in it and when I clean it out it was fine. That was the first time i cleaned it, Its happening again but now it is winter and there are no leaves to fall. Im not sure if I didn't put enough grease on it or the grease is t thick in the cold to lubricate it.

 

Actually it is a little bit warmer here and the chirp stopped guess the grease was too cold to do anything

 

Has it got worse? I'm buying some other parts at Rock auto. Just wondering if I want to throw $50 on the VDO or 4S? Or just spend the $120 or so on OEM??

 

Seems to be a little squeak with the temp change but not nearly as bad as the OEM one that was in there. Now that I have two, I may "doctor" the spare I have to see if I can improve it.

 

Ok thanks. IDK it seems Toyota may have it right now with the new 44. I'll hold off for now and maybe just get that. I haven't heard any of those fail yet?

 

I went ahead and got the OEM 044 blower from Camelback Toyota online. $108 + shipping. I ordered several other parts too and shipping was $17. Anyway I'm enjoying running the AC on low and not hearing clicking / chirping noises. Blissful silence Hope it stays that way

 

I recently did the grease method, and so far its been nice and quiet. We'll see how long this last.

 

Sorry if it has been stated, but I dont have time to go through all 67 pages to see if anybody has suggested it or not. Maybe replace the bushings with sealed bearings? bearings are way less prone to squeeking.

 

*** 3 year update ***

I havent had a single chirp from my original blower motor since I filed the sharp edges on the brushes and added Tri-Flow.

Has anyone else had similar results?

I did not take the motor out I just cleaned the bearing and greased the bearing on the cap, I figured it was the bearing squeeking like and old skateboard bearing.. I really think the trick is the to adjust the balance while the fan is on, you can really hear the difference

 

Hey everyone, I need some help and it's actually urgent. I replaced my chirping motor with an O'Reilly 65 dollar one. Worked but not pleasantly due to noise and vibration. So I greased my original, took off the cover and those spring-loaded copper connectors, and blew it all out with an air compressor. I did not disassemble the fan and motor and I did not clean it with anything wet. The grease stopped the squeaking by a hand test so I was excited.

I tried to install the greased original today and it did nothing, blew only on high for a split second, then stopped and the connector was really hot. Assuming I got something wet, I put the cheapo back in and it also did not work.

This leads me to believe i did something to the connector in the time I swapped the motors. Someone please shed some light on this as I work in a refinery as well as commute in 90+ degrees and 75+ humidity (aka sweat city)

Any ideas?? I leave for a trip Wednesday and only have tomorrow evening to fix it. Thanks all.

Note: the connector getting hot and the fan working for an instant leads me to believe the harness IS getting power. Please help!

Update : 2 hours after the incident I read some solutions online and hitting it did nothing, the fuse is not blown, BUT when I switch it to a different setting (any of them) and used any of the speeds, it would make an actuation noise and "buzz" or "whirr" but the fan itself did not move. This gives me a little hope that the wiring is alright. Both motors can't be broken, especially since the O'Reilly motor has been working fine and was only unplugged for a few minutes.
