Ok...been trying to take the time to read here. I'm new to this whole lift/level deal. I have no mechanical knowledge at all. I'm wanting to just level out the 2016 TRD Off Rd 4x4 Double Cab. I want to run either XD or Fuel 17" Wheels with 285s and have no rubbing issues. I seem to read here that I can do that with nothing more than the 5100s on the front? No need for spacers, UCAs, Added rear leafs, etc. And the 5100s will work and install no prob on the '16?

I have 2 locally owned shops near by (both with good reputations as far as I can tell, both have been around a pretty long time) and one 4Wheel Parts store. I've visited all 3, and gotten different info at all 3. 4WP Recommended 3x1 level kit nothing with more, but also suggested 2.25 kit on front only or even just a 2", one local shop said 2.25 on front only, the other local shop (after checking Bilstein and saying they didn't have leveling shock for the 2016) said 3x1 but must do UCAs too to get back to factory spec on alignment.

    Thanks for any input.

Not quite sure why you would want to go to 17" wheels. The OR comes with 16's for good reason MORE SIDEWALL. That way when your actually wheeling you can air down lower without breaking a bead loose from the rim. Stay with an 75 or 85 aspect ratio tire. IMO Armor up and wheel it!!

@SLACKBOY its a quality lift option, id pick it over a 5100 kit any day of the week. I used to run the 5100's with eibach coils from toytec, a great lift but upgraded to the BOSS kit about a year ago and have been very pleased. They valved the shocks to perform better off road and the ride quality is improved in my opinion.

Yeah installed Saturday, truck came out good. Getting a little rubbing on hard turns but hopefully goes away with the alignment if not I'll chop the cab mount like everyone else.

Im running 17" fuel hostage wheels on 295/70/17's and don't have any problems airing down and running trails here in CO. I do agree that more tire less wheel thought though, if i were to do it all over knowing more now i would have stuck with 16's.

Thanks. Let me know if you ended up needing new UCA after the Alignment. I thinking of the same set up.

Depends on how you plan to treat them. Resi's are great for lots of high speed bumps because the shock is cycling more and building more heat. So the more oil to circulate around the cooler the shock stays and the better it functions. Also by moving to an external resi you allow for more internal travel in the coilover. The 2.5 set ups are rebuildable as well.

I have the BOSS 2.0's now and will be moving to the 2.5 with external resi when Toytec releases them. Then I am going to refresh my current BOSS 2.0's and put them on my 4th gen 4 runner.

I guess mainly because the wheels I like best don't come in 16"...other than that, I guess I agree with you on the "more tire less wheel". That said, I don't really 4 Wheel for fun...I hunt in thick, slick, clay mud and probably would not bother to let the air out, and re-air every time I go to the woods.

@TacoMEDIC - Did you decide on if you will do a CMC? If so, do you have pics of your CMC job?

Just got my inferno TRD offroad 4x4 and can't wait to start the build! :bananadance: I was looking at Toytec's sema truck with boss suspension. Are those remote reservoir boss coil overs coming in the future or are they a one off for the sema truck? The boss 2.5 coilovers are on back order right now anyway so don't mind waiting a little longer if the remote resi version is coming.

P.S. thanks to all for all the great information this forum.

    So here's my dilemma...
I'm looking for a good lift that is going to be daily driven Monday through Friday with occasional off-road use to go hunting camping etc. which I'm not sure if it changes anything but also towing a 22 foot walk around boat which may be in the ball park of 3-4K pounds. The boat will be the primary stress On the suspension other than daily driving to and from work. I've been looking at the following choices
    -bilstein 5100
-toytec 2.5 w Total chaos UCA and deaver leafs.

    While running 275/75/16 bFG ko2 on Sr8's.

    Suggestions from
Anyone running anything similar while towing would be much appreciated. I'm not trying to spend a pretty penny on a nice lift and ruin it by towing.

Have you looked into a set of firestone riderite airbags? I plane on running them with 1.5" to 2" rear lift to assist in pulling a 2500lb Rpod camper. They won't increase payload but should keep you level and the extra weight off the leaf springs. You can use the day-star cradles if your concerned about loosing rear suspension travel. The larger tires are what will kill the "torque applied" to the asphalt. I hear good stuff about the boss suspension from toytec.

So, I should wait for the 2.5 with coils? but how much more is that gonna cost? For $1700 you can get the Kings coils with adjustable knob, so I hope they don't add too much cost in the kit. I was gonna do kings of icons but I'm not doing anything remotely extreme for their use, so the 2.5 kit at $2300 was perfect enough for me.

Where or what brand did you find a 275/75/16? Never seen that size tire besides Mickey Thompson?

I decided to do the CMC. I'll probably cut on it tomorrow and have my buddy come by Wednesday to weld the BAMF plates in. I'll make sure to take pics through the the process

I have not heard what the pricing will be for the external resi BOSS coilovers. My main reason for making the switch is because I like the re-build-able function and I just ordered custom rear ICON's with Resi's so I will want to match the fronts with an external resi set up.

Sounds to me that you could go 2.5 BOSS without the resi and be happy. The larger 2.5 body enhances the performance of the coilover. And you get the rebuildable aspect for down the road.

The shock will perform better over extended periods of use then the 2.0 due to the extra oil capacity. I have not gotten my hands on a set for my truck yet but those that I know and have spoken to about them, love them. Definitely the next step up over a 2.0. Don't get me wrong my 2.0's have performed great for me which is why I plan to simply refresh them with new rubber and install them on my 4th Gen 4 runner.
