My dad's 2500hd 6.0 gas gets 11-12 average unloaded. My taco does 14-15 on the same loop.

My brother has a gmc 2500 with the 6.0l and I don't think there is an engine that is harder on gas. Not a fair comparison at all.

Hook a small or big trailer to it and it's 8mpg all day. Gets expensive.

6.0 in my g8 (very similar to truck engine) gets 25mpg at 85. Turns identical rpm to the 2500 at the same speed given tire size and gear ratio

My 4cyl 5spd reg cab 4x4 Taco averaged 20mpg with stock wheels, went to 19 with 265's. Now I have a 2013 F150 302 V8 extended cab 4x4 and I am averaging 18. Doesnt make much sense to me. Went to a truck with twice the power and a lot more room only to drop 2 mpg. Fair trade IMO.

That's why we need a v8 option. More power!

Biggest reason the Taco, or an midsize gets poor mileage is theyre heavy comparitively. The 6cyl is working harder to push that truck down the road. A 8cyl in a full size doesnt have to work to hard since it has a lot more tq and hp to roll down the highway, especially since a full size only weighs a little more in curb weight.

Yep. Plus they don't have the trans and diffs optimized to get in the power/mileage band of the v6. That's why you'll see MT guys get better MPG. They can work the MPG/power curve better.

Somewhat, a 3.6 pentastar gets better mpg in a full size than the taco in midsize.

Since we all agree a larger motor will get better mpg in a midsize, we should just push for a twin turbo 5.7L Tundra motor. I estimate 40 mpg and can tow 12k lbs...

The way I see it is why not, if I'm burning the same gas why not have 400 hp?

I was serious about the mileage though.
