There were no 70's 4runners hahaha.

You might like a 1st gen though. Removable top makes it like a truck. Downside is only 2 doors and they're shorter. Honestly though the second gen has the best hauling ability. Its the longest because it still has the fold down tailgate like the truck, so there isn't a lot you can't haul. Later gens have hatches which make it hard. My friend Tim was hauling this huge log that stuck out the back and the hatch kept bouncing on it. Broke his trim, but he was lucky it didn't break more. I don't think you'd be disappointed with how much you can put in a 2nd gen. I'm sure @4WALKER would agree that you'd like it

Sorry haha you're right, I was thinking of the regular truck.... always looking at those two since they are cheaper. Can always bolt down seats lol. What year is the 2nd Gen, 90s right? I've heard numerous problems with the headers of V6s. Also like you said the top is a fun feature, but it is shorter which kind of throws me away from a truck.

90-95. And yeah the V6 has a head gasket problem, the reason I'm not joining you guys this weekend. Honestly though as long as you take care of it it can be prevented. And if it happens you have an excuse to do a 3.4 swap so its not the worst thing. Other than that they're pretty bullet proof. I can think of multiple times where I would've broken down if I had been driving something else but I didn't

Yeah, but the first like 4 were because you were in Big Bear and I wasn't involved so that's different. The rest is just going to be because you're all torturing me! :deadhorse:

Personally I won't be, since the Ihop is in LA and most of us are in Orange County I doubt many people from this thread will be going out of the way to LA although I can't speak for everyone.

We'll see man, I need to get my business off the ground already so I can get a secondary money stream in first

    '
It's all still being decided, some people are talking about leaving before noon. Others are talking about leaving in the evening/night, personally I'm going to convoy with the later crowd

@kyle11863 I'm probably going to end up getting a 1st gen 4x4 long bed and doing a seat set up similar to This , so I can still have the full size bed when needed. Granted I won't include a roll cage like that but in the long run I would have some form of cage protection for everyone

The primitive camp site has a narrow/rocky dirt entrance to it and just getting TO the primitive camp site from Split Mountain Road is very, very bumpy at best! I know this doesn't help much with determining/your asking the question, but just trying to give you a "visual" of how rugged the dirt road is just getting to the primitive camp site. What you will experience is the following:
    1) as you head south on Split Mountain Rd you will then make a
    2) right on to the big open dirt path (there will be very bright lights off in the distance of the, I believe it is a plaster mine just ahead, if you go about 100yds past this point, you will see a fork in the road... that is, next to the railroad tracks and by then, you would have missed the road to go to the primitive camp site... sooooo... make sure to NOT miss the big dirt lot that will be on your right-hand side)
    3) continue driving south on the dirt path for a mile or more and then start veering left
    4) and you will eventually be going up a narrow path that goes up and in to the primitive camp site (can be fairly rocky... a minivan can make it, but don't know about a trailer as the path can be a bit loose sand/rocks as you go up the path)

I don't know of any other path that you can take to easily "wheel in" to that camp site other than the tiny narrow passageway that kinda goes up a small hill.

So, I don't know if I would trust dragging a "box" around in that particular area?! Not only that, from my own personal experiences, the sand can be very unpredictable!!! That, I can gaurantee you!!!

Hope this sorta helps give an idea.

LOL... I remember all of that and all I did was follow my friend. If I was to travel "alone" from HB to Split Mountain...:goingcrazy:

    Happy Wheel'n

2nd gen runners go for cheap. I saw this sweet one that was a limited with a touch screen nav on ebay for 2k. Would buy it if I could.
Hmm interesting design. Not surenyou cpuld get away with it in CA though. Its too strict here. You could for sure in AZ. Also when you say first gen are you saying 1st gen truck (hilux) or 1st gen taco?

Sorry ya 1st gen Tacoma. I've looked into the legality, technically I can have seats in the bed if both the seats & seatbelts are street legal seats and if the seats are securely bolted down. Yes I'm sure I'll get stopped by cops and have to prove it's legal probably quite often but it's a strong future possibility
