I can't stand most of the newer games that come out for most systems now. The last games I played on PS4 was Destiny, SW: Battlefront and Dishonored. I switched and did Fallout 4 on the PC. I miss the early days of Final Fantasy, and Dragon Warrior (Now called Dragon Quest).

I played destiny for a while till the 2nd expansion. Game still sucked at that point, ive heard the newest one is good though with entire change of gameplay. I just wont give them more money cause i already had spent 90 on a garbage game.

Fallout 4 is the latest game i play. Disappointed in it as well, but at least its a game i can play on my own time and it doesnt require online.

I've only been working nights for almost 2 years, I love my environment at work on nights but anyone have tips on being a dad/husband the rest of the week?

They sleep on a completely different schedule but when I do with them it feels like my body is confused

I sleep in the afternoons as I function best at night when I've slept for a few hours before. I don't do well sleeping during the day when the kids are at school. My wife and I are like two ships passing in the night, but we can't do much about that with our present schedules. I could try to sleep during the day, but I don't function as well that night when I do that. Weekends I usually stay up until late afternoon on Saturday after I get off work in the AM so I can spend time with the family, Sunday I start to transition to my normal schedule so I can start all over again. I'm seriously thinking about switching my sleep schedule (sleep in morning, wake in afternoon and night) this week, but I still have appointments that throw that into chaos. The reason for the switch is so I can help my wife and kids more during the evenings, then head to work. Probably will take me at least a month or more to get used to that schedule.

Consistency is key in trying to have a "normal" schedule/life. If you bounce around too much you won't get anywhere and you'll be miserable and feel "off"

Prior to this I worked for 5 years working nights, but the only way I survived was keeping the same schedule, even on weekends.

I also had to set my room up (then, and now) so i could sleep better and "trick" my body into sleeping.

    Blackout curtains (bathroom and bedroom)
--Bathroom has one layer along with horizontal blinds
--Bedroom has two layers along with horizontal blinds, along with spring clamps to hold the curtain along the sill to keep them in place.

Limo tint (two layers on bedroom window)
Blackout/noise reducing curtains on door from hallway to master bedroom.
    Ear plugs

    Sound machine:

    http://www.amazon.com/Marpac-DOHM-D...016&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=sound+machine&psc=1

This is the best sound machine I have used. I used to use my iPhone, as well as a digital sound machine, but the digital would pick up signals from the phone and make weird noises. The DOHM version also comes in black, has a fan inside, and you can adjust the noise by a baffle on top and the sides. It is excellent and I highly recommend it.

Im back for 5 days this week too. But I get a nice 2 day break on wed and thursday. The 3 days in a row kill me, especially on a weekend.

All Ive been doing is stalking/tracking my lift, and looking for more things to buy..

Yeah, get those vacation days in while you can. I have some time coming in March during the kids spring break. Really looking forward to it.

Nice, taking a week or just a few days?

Gonna try. Shitty thing is ill lose them if i end up working. Itd be nice just to have two days to recover before switching back to days and since ive only had 4 days off the past two months.

I get 7 hours every pay period. 2 pay periods per month, so 14 hours per month. With my schedule that translates to 1 day and 2 hours.. not that great. But the max is 248 hours. Im right around 200 hours now. Ive been trying to save my hours, until Im "forced" to take a day off because my balance doesnt go above 248.

Taking a whole week off. Not sure what I'll do sleep wise, might switch to sleeping at night for awhile, that might be a mistake though.

I agree about taking a few days to flip back over. But I found in the past it's easier to switch to day shift than going to nights.

Sounds a bit like mine, though I think I earn less per month than you. It kicks up after we've been with the company/hospital for 5 years, then we get 8 hrs per pay. It increases every 5 years I think. I've been trying to build up enough leave that if I was forced, I could take an entire month off.

Thatll be a nice time. Id switch for a few days at least if it were me.

I dont tend to have a problem switching my sleep schedule though. Just requires me to stay up longer one day to make it through. I just hate how much time gets wasted when working nights, feel like there isnt ever time to do anything.

Thats not bad. 3 weeks a year. I only get two and it just automatically resets on my year anniversary, no earning throughout the year. But i cant roll it over or be paid out.

Yeah, I think I'll probably do that. The family would probably appreciate it. Nights is... different, that's for sure. You're just out of sync with the rest of the people in your area.

same with mine. Im working on my 5th year. In Jan 2017, ill get 8.67 hours per pay. For my company, 5-15 years is 8.67 hours. At 15+ years, you get 10.5 hours per period. But thats also a huge commitment.

What? It doesn't roll over? That's weird (to me), I think my co-worker said he's almost up to the max which is 2 months carried over. After that he has to either use it, lose it, or sell it back to the hospital. There is also a way we can donate it to co-workers who need it due to family issues, medical problems, etc.

Yeah, by that time you may as well stick it out for the long haul.
