WTF! My brand new tacoma makes a loud clanking noise from the transmission when I hit any bumps, either in neutral or when im shifting gears while hitting bumps in the road. Doesnt make any noise while in gear and hittin bumps! when i shake my shifter around kinda makes the same noise! sounds like the shifter doesnt have a tight fit.

You sure it's not a loose nut between the wheel and the drivers seat?

    No issues with mine..

Manual trans trucks inherently have more mechanical noise...

There's more moving gears and parts, linkages, and a gaping hole forna shifter...

Loose bolts on the transmission mount ? Rocks stuck under the mount ? Something resting up against the transmission ? Is there any oil in the transmission ?
As other have mentioned , take it in and have things checked over

I have noticed the same thing, exactly the same thing you described. Manuals do inherently make more noise but the noise coming through to the cabin is way too loud IMO, I can almost feel the "clank". If i'm super smooth with the clutch and granny shift it then i can minimize it a bit. I Will be taking it to the dealer to get it checked out when i get a chance. I was also thinking of test driving another truck to see if it makes the same noises.

Loose transmission mount could be it, will check them my self tonight.

I only have 295 miles on mine but it is silky smooth with very tight and positive shifts both up and down. No noise aside from a bit of gear whine in first (barely perceptible). But I am coming from an 18 year old Yukon as my D.D.

My tacoma had been doing the same thing. I feel like the transfer case has something loose and the driveshaft is rocking back and fourth making that clanking sound in it. Unless i ease off the clutch i can hear and feel it....especially in 4lo. Really irritating!

    Mostly stuff I built.
This has already been brought up several times. My truck has the same issue so I did some looking and found out for my self what it was. The transmission mount is made from supper soft material this causes some of the movement associated with this clunk. The exhaust moves around quite a bit on these trucks on the manual and automatic transmission trucks adding to this clunk. I checked this on mine and 3 other trucks at the dealership. From what I found 70% of the noise is from leaf spring slap between the over load and the other leaves. 15% of it is the elements listed above. There is also just a touch of noise from all the gear lash in the transmission, transfer case, drive shaft and differential. That backlash is normal you have to have some in a gear train. If there were no backlash it would eventually chew itself to bits. Verified this with a photo tachometer on the rear drive line hooked up to my portable oscilloscope. Now that I know where it is coming from it concerns me a lot less. I would post the Go Pro videos but my son reformatted the SD card they were on before he and his friends went to float the river last summer.

At this point in my life, I'd be worried if I was driving a manual truck that DIDN'T do this. All three that I've owned have done it, and several others that I have just driven did the very same thing.

Trucks tend to whip around more than a car ever will, this is by design. Nature of the beast.

Yep, mine has done it from day one. Pretty sure it is normal for the truck. There will be times I'm starting to go in 1st but suddenly need to brake again so I'll brake and push the clutch in. Push that clutch in a little too fast and it sounds like someone just banged two frying pans together beneath my truck.

Also have to be extra slow and smooth on the clutch in 1st to 2nd or you'll get the clanking and banging.

I'm confused, video of the noise? Like when you press the clutch and there is a click or clunk? I hear this when I have the window open and no radio on, but this is normal MT noise. ~4500mi - no complaints. Had a squeaky clutch, but a forum member gave me a quick tip to grease and all good
