Thinking about upgrading tires to a st maxx in 245/75r16 flavor. I really like this tire and didnt want to jump up to a 265/75r16 in that tire because i feel that would kill what very little power we had. The 245/75r16 st maxx is suppose to weigh 47lbs while the 265s weigh 54lbs, ill hopefully also get a set of scs f5 wheels sometime, But anyone have any idea if this is a good idea or not? Or am i being stupid and should just get the 265s? I can get the 245 for around 160 a tire

When I first jumped to the 265s I didnt think it was to bad. I went with Hankook DynPros ATms in 265/75 P-Rated and never had a power issue. Fuel economy actually went up a little bit. Now for some odd reason going to a cooper ATP same size same load rating I lost mileage (about 1mpg and could never get back to that 22-23 range). Switched again to Fierce Attitude MT at the beginning of the winter same size but a E-Load tire... Now combo of a MT and an E-Load tire it sucked my mpg to 17-19mpg range... 20 on a good day... Some odd moments when I get above 20 but not so much. So now when these burn out I am going to a Toyo At2 load C tire in the same 265/75 size.

I never noticed a power loss with the P-rated tires, towed a small Kubota tractor still and moved halfway across the country towing a U-Haul without to much complain. I really only noticed it on the heavier E-Rated tire, especially around town and at lights (I'm part of the 3 pedal club so a lot more clutch and throttle work to get things moving). Hope is drop back down to a C-rating tire will keep a much better middle ground

Yeah so you probably are going to notice it a bit, but I dont see it being to bad. Do you need the E-Rating though? Have to say my truck rides pretty harsh with them

If/when you get them on post some pictures bro,

I remember seeing an Access Cab at the detailer one day last year, this guy was giving me an estimate on buffing some diamond plate aluminum for me but I noted he had a Tacoma and I immediately saw the ST MAXX tread and wandered over and I swear they were going to be 265s and I was pleasantly surprised they were 245s.

The blocky type shoulders and awesome, looking tread make it look bigger than it is I believe.

So is that a foam mattress in the back of you truck? I like the set up. Are there deck rail options for setting up a small bed on top and storage below? Also, of course I would have to get a cap. How heavy and how much is a cap like yours? Best brand? This set up looks nice for some road travel. I may have to think about this in the future...

Yeah it's a 4" foam mattress I got off Amazon. In the bed there are cut outs that fit 2x8 boards that go across the bed then I cut two pieces of ply wood to go on top and carpeted them. It's very sturdy and easy to remove if need be. I have storage bins that I put below that hold all my camping gear.
I'm not sure what the weight of the cap is but it's an atc cap. It's one of the cheaper ones but I love it and have never had a single issue.
I lived out of my truck with my gf last summer while traveling around for 2 months and we had a blast.
