    MJB,

Thanks again for your interest. A kiradashi isn't a difficult knife to make and doesn't really entail a lot in terms of finish work so I couldn't really ask for much more than what I stated. The blade in the last pic would probably start in the hundred dollar range (depending on the handle material you are interested in) and an additional 10-20 bucks for a sheath, depending on your sheath preferences.

    They're pretty.

Did they fix their issues with the grinds yet? Too thin, overheated, etc,.

Their customer service is hit and miss also. For the money, it's a disappointing user IMO.

    Sure, they all look great.

Then you use them and the edge is trash because they grind them too thin - you send it in for warranty and it comes back just as thin AND overheated and burnt because they don't have enough material there to heat.

Barkies with a user grind are great, but Bark River sucks at grinding.

I won't dis another maker (especially being a Michigander myself), but to my understanding they grind their knife bevels post heat treat / temper. This can spell disaster at the thinner sections of a knife (where a proper heat treat and temper matter most), as heat tends to build up super fast in the thinner sections of the blade first. You temper a lot of steels in the 300 to 600 degree range. The edge of a blade will reach these temps in a New York minute on a belt grinder and go well beyond this if you aren't careful. There are arguments on both sides as to the potential side effects of rough grinding post-heat treat / temper, but I come from an engineering background and to me, eliminating variables is the only means of creating consistent and repeatable results.

Yikes! That would explain it. I didn't know they rough grind post heat treatment. Seems like a silly way to spend time (money).

That said, that explains half the story - they still can't finish grind a chipped edge on a warranty return without overheating the new edge all over again. Lack of training, or lack of care on their end.
