Love my Toyo MT's. Nothing but confidence on ice and snow. Must be the Detroit locker that makes the difference. :D

Better to ask what I have not done.
Alright guys I need to pick your brain a little. The Dana 44 I am using for the swap has single 3 inch piston calipers in the front. The brakes are out of a 1980 gmc k15. I don't know if I want to trust the stopping power that those provide stock. But don't know first hand about them and this is why I'm asking.

Remember I will be DDing the truck still. A minimum of 35 inch tires and will be hauling the expo trailer that can be upwords of 3000lbs fully loaded. ( the trailer does have electric brakes too)

    The options i can do.

Leave it stock (200ish $ for all that stuff)

Upgrade the calipers to dual Pistons 2 inch at the tone of 415$

Upgrade to slotted and drilled rotors at the tone of 370$

Upgrade pads to EBC red or yellow 88-111$

Upgrade all of it for almost 900$

    What combo do you think?

Ideally I would upgrade it all but can bairly do that. If you guys think it would be best then it's probably what I would do.

    Thanks guys for your help!

Enough to make it a lot of fun!
IMO I say do it the right way the first time so you don't have to tear it apart again and fix it. But that is just my $.02

    Totally your call on this
My Scout has a D44, with the 3" piston and it locks up 37's.
As for the addition of a trailer, I used to pull a loaded tent trailer behind it (2000lb) and didn't notice it pushing me. Brake pads and rotors were whatever O'Reilly had on the shelf.

So I would say they will be adequate, but there is always room for improvement.

I just have no idea if the brakes sucked back then and to keep close to the same stopping that I have now if I would have to upgrade the old stuff.

Being that you are swapping for a d44... one would think you would have budgeted for these types of upgrades. This is why a swap is so expensive when done correctly.

Haha I have 3k left for this swap so I'm not worried about it. it's just I don't know if I need to dump 250$ in brakes or 900$ I'm fine doing either just asking if there is any major things as to why. For instance the friction force of the single piston caliper is 7.04 sq inches and the 2 piston is 6.28 square inches. I'm just curious of fading or chattering with the brakes.....

I have the Toyo Open Countries on my truck... they look great... dig like all hell... but f'n suck on ice and hard snow. They're heavy and I have to get down to 12-10psi to see a difference airing down. but they are f'n bulletproof. I park in an active construction site, and they just replaced all the siding on my apartment complex. had 5 good sized bolts through my tires... not one leak. took it back to Les Schuab and had them repair it for free.

I'll be going AT next...thinking Cooper Maxx... maybe Duratrack or BFG A/T... not sure... but I am sure don't wheel enough to need/want a MT... and honestly, haven't encountered any terrain that stopped an AT from doing the same trail as me (they may need a bit more momentum) and the On road, Snow, and Ice behavior is much better.

Whatever you do. Start a new thread on tires. There is not one single thread on this website about that.

I am currently considering the Cooper STT Pro's. I've read some solid reviews on them and I want to give them a whirl to put it to the test in our lovely bi-polar weather we seem to get

I'm a big fan of the Coopers too. The set on the van has been going for two years and have been great in snow, so if the off-road offerings are similar they should be a winner.

How have the Nitto's been treating you?

Not a single issue, but it's also an A/T, and when / if I get Coopers I will be conducting a full blown review in comparison. The Nittos lack an aggressive look too.
