It's less Tacoma and more mod
Maybe they just had a bad batch, I'm not sure really what causes that to happen. It's enough to steer me away from them, but as I use my truck more and more offroad I'm starting to think my next set of tires will be the Goodyear MTR Kevlars, they seem to have a better reputation. I really like the BFGs for the time being though. Pretty soon I won't have to worry about on road performance, just need a year or two more. Sounds like a cool job by the way, I'd certainly like a profession that lets me trip around the great outdoors.

I used to have E rated 265/70/17s on my truck before I went to the 35s and I still got 20 in the city and roughly 22 highway they are a little heavier but its nothing really noticeable is it overkill maybe but I know they saved my sidewall when off-road
That's IG bruh lol and yes the 4banger handles heavy tires without to many issues I just don't have the top end I used to but hopefully a regear will solve that

Pretty sure every brand has had bad batches at one time or another. BFGs were having tread separation for awhile but I'd buy another set in a heart beat.

We have owned a lot of trucks and have always gotten BFG all terrains E rated, on ALL of them. I sold my 2008 AWD 4Runner with 70K miles on the tires and they still had life left in them.

They look good and are proven - I'll stick with the BFG's, going to put 265-75-R16 on my 16 Tacoma when it gets here next month.

I would rather just change a tire then spend my whole life bouncing around on E-loads and getting 9 MPG.

To whoever says C rated Duratracs are strong enough for whatever, I think you should meet some of my friend who have torn da fuck out of their sidewalls. Honestly, manufacturer and carcass construction mean way more to me than the load rating on a Tacoma. If I have to run an E rated tire to get the level of durability in the size I need due the to supply from the manufacturer than so be it.

BTW there are so many factors involved in what causes failures in each tire that blankly saying "X tire held up for me fine in X conditions because I do X activity in X area a lot which makes X tire amazing and X heavier tire overkill," doesn't make sense at all.

I would do BFG's in a 6 ply before Duratracs. I know they have a huge following, I just don't know why. There are so many reports of weak sidewalls and shitty traction once they're a little worn down.

Buying E rated tires has nothing to do with dick size or Napoleon complex (@nevadabugle) . A lot of good tire choices are only available in P rated or 10 ply - such as Michelin and Cooper St Maxx. 6 ply is plenty if you have that option, but if not, 10 ply over P rated if you cover harsh terrain.

BTW who gets 9 mpg on E rated tires? I got about 17 mpg with P rated 31" Hancook Dynapros. With a supercharger and E rated 33" ST Maxx tires I'm getting about 15 mpg. So I lost 10% fuel efficiency after all of that but I gain tires that didn't even scratch the tire when I bent my rim and spindle on a trip before Christmas. With that damage I don't even know if I could of changed the tire safely on the trail lol.

MTRs are tough as nails. I got to test a set for a month because Discount put the wrong tires on my truck. They said I could keep them over the Duratracs for no up charge. I would have except I had a Prerunner then. Road noise was not worth it on a 2wd.

I have had more flats and poorer traction with BFG a/ts than I have had with duraTracs. I ran BFGs for a few years long ago and was always dissapointed in snow traction and I would get rock punctures in the tread. YMMV but that was my expierience. All the Gold Mines around here run either Toyo M/Ts or Duratracs. You see a few running Coopers as well.

Look at what followed me home today...

    IMG_20160216_191245_bd66cb127902c5779f6491c62f954bfeb6b6034d.jpg

I wanted C's but they only had E's in stock and I'm impatient.

Slightly more bouncy, much louder than the studded iPikes I took off.

You cannot compare the Duratrac to a Ko2, The Ko2 is comparable to the Toyo AT2 or the Nitto GO2.

The Cooper ST is a great tire, and I would have gotten it but again, impaitent and the Duratrac had what I wanted in a tire. Large voids.

Aren't you saying almost the same exact thing? Instead of saying they're amazing you're just saying they're shit because x tire did not hold up in x conditions because of x activity in x area which makes x tire lousy and x tire under sized.

Meh. My point was that either way tires are so debatable it's not even funny. What works great in one size or situation may not in others. I'd run c rated duratrac if the price and size was right especially if I did more highway driving.

I'm not arguing your good experiences with them - just my observations and the general opinions I hear.

Google images for "duratrac sidewall" and note the failures. Then google images for "bfg sidewall" and see how far you need to scroll down to see slashed sidewalls. It's only anecdotal evidence but kind of interesting.
