combining lsd and auto lsd would be redundant and may winde up conflicting each other.

Plus the Auto LSD has no clutches to warranty. I had a factory LSD clutch version in a car I built years ago and could actually slip the clutches for both wheels on the rear axle in 3rd and 4th, little scarey at 100mph.

Yea everytime you change the brakes you have new LSD.

 how did you slip the clutches at 100mph?

It was a built Camaro with 295/50R15 T/A's with a doug nash 5sp and 3.08's and an extremely massaged 350. Ran 12.88 @ 111 mph on those street tires at the track, but I couldn't get down the street in the snow!

To clarify the comments made at the first of this post, that Canada doesn't make a double cab with rear lock diff. Toyota makes two types of Double Cabs, both can be purchased here depending on what you plan to use them for. Rear lockers only come with the Access Cabs TRD Off Road, and the Double Cab shortbox TRD Off Road. The Double Cab TRD long box does not come with rear lock diff and is therefore labelled TRD Sport.

the thought behind the OR package is for offroading. 99% of people who want to go offroadind or who are serious enough for a locker dont want a long wheelbase. A DCLB with a locker is still more likely to get stuck than a short wheelbase with open diffs.

Ok, I understand what my Auto LSD does. . .I have tested it, it works. Why not just use 4wd? Am I missing something? Or is it so you can brag to your buddies that you just climbed that rock pile in 2wd?! :D

I'm certain there are a few of us that would desire the storage space that the double cab offers, along with the long box with a hard top to camp out in. Especially if you tend to stay out for a period of time for hunting ect. All it takes is a lift to give the long box sufficient room to clear or function better as an OR vehicle. Only down side to the DCLB is that it doesn't offer A-Trac or lock diff. If Toyota would at least give it A-Trac like the Tundra, it would likely sell more units and be an awesome vehicle for those remote overnite trips OR. And I'm certain more of the 99% your refering to would make a switch.

I've wondered the same thing myself. Only thing I can conclude is that in the 2WD mode with LSD switched on, you would save gas while traveling on rough back roads/terrain, having the option to move into 4H when terrain becomes more difficult.

I would really like a better understanding how Toyota's 4WD system works. I intentionally got my DCLB stuck (centred in snow bank) so I could watch to see how distribution went to the wheels as my wife worked the gas. I noted that distribution moved from one side to the other in the back and in the front, as all wheels eventually spent time spinning

That is almost exactly how I worded it in another thread on the optional drive modes...

AUTO LSD is a tool for the 2WD trucks... giving them 'posi-traction' that is stronger than the standard TRAC LSD action.

Those of us with 4WD can just skip putting our truck through the stress and use 4WD if one side gets into mush. If the entire truck gets into mush, then we can use A-TRAC in L4 (like having AUTO LSD front and rear... close to having lockers front and rear).

Check out this thread I made with full explanation of the 9 drive modes and A-TRAC videos: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/te...uto-lsd-explained-easy-understand-i-hope.html

My guess is that you have a DC SB TRD OR edition, which gives you the benefit of A-TRAC. I have the DC LB TRD SPORT, it doesn't come with either A-TRAC or Lock Diff. I previously owned 2009 AC TRD OR (comes with LB) that came with both the a/m features; however, the back seats were terrible for passengers during a long trip be it on asphalt or OR, and the storage setup inside the cab was even worst. Traded for the 2010 DC LB TRD, which only comes in a Sport. This allowed me to continue using bed with hard top cap to camp out in, or carry building supplies. DC give friends a half descent ride when hooking up with boat or quads, to go and have some fun and it also has have descent storage space inside the cab with LSD. I've dealt with the lack of A-TRAC or Lock Diff by carrying a portable winch that goes into a front or rear receiver, in the event I do get stuck. Strange thing is that my new truck does not get stuck as easily as the AC did?

Only other option would have been to move into a Tundra at a $1000 more. Their new 4.6L OR looks promising. It has all the capabilities I mentioned that the DC LB should have. I just prefer the small compact size and believe the Taco will still get better fuel eco. and life span. The bed bounce problem that Tundra's were having has not been fully fixed, although I've been told they now have a mounting system that addresses some of this problem.

If only Toyota would make a AC TRD OR with better passanger seats and cargo space (get rid of the horrible sub woofer that sits out like a sore pimple inbetween the two passenger seats), and a DC LB with A-TRAC (maybe even an E-Lock) they would likely increase their sales and have more than just the best selling compact on the market. Better yet an OR with E-lock on the fly.

    Are you in Canada?

Yes, I have the OR TRD... wouldn't ever get it any other way... My truck shines where it can go off road, any truck can shine on the street!

Mine is a Double Cab AUTO. 4WD OR TRD (5' bed). I hear the LONG 6' bed is not available with the OR PKG. in Canada... shame on Toyota! You do have TRAC/ VSC, however... and if you do the 'yellow wire mod.' behind the glove box, you can have TRAC in L4... and that is a BIG improvement over the open differential in L4!

Yes, I am in Canada. Yet if I'm correct, all Tacomas that are now sold in Canada come from US. Therefore, the DC LB they sell in the US would not come in an OR.

My Tacoma comes from Mexico... I will check and see if the long bed has the TRD Off Road package down here... Yah, the web site with my zip code does not have the long bed DC available with the OR package ... shame!
