    [IMG] Hi all,

I've had the silver wheels for about a year but really like the anthracite color on the SE (PT904-35071).

Has anyone ever painted these particular wheels gun metal, graphite, gray, etc? If so, pics?

That's about the truth of it. It will gradually eat away at me and one day I'll just say F-it and do it. It's almost like I want them to get scratched up so I have an excuse to cover them. But I think they look good as is. Just a little too bright for my taste.

I had bought some used TRD off road wheels & couldn't stand how bright they were. I painted them gun metal gray & turned out nice. Unfortunately when I bought new tires, the tire shop guys chipped them up pretty good. I'll be repainting them soon.

Powdercoat is another option. Much stronger finish. The only problem is that you need another set of wheels on your truck while they get coated.

I looked into powder coating and avg price around here is $125/wheel. At that price I'd just buy a new set of wheels or used ones and paint them.

I have this same dilemma. I have two sets of these (an anthracite set on my Tacoma and a gray set on my 4runner). I go back and forth painting the gray set all the time. It kills me because they are in perfect shape (much better than the anthracite ones) but that gray is just so BRIGHT!

I haven't done it yet, mainly because past wheel painting experiences on other wheels has only had so/so outcomes (IMO). I'd really like to paint a set gloss battleship gray (like the Toyota concrete color). I think it would look good and not look like I was trying to fake a set of the anthracite ones. Plus, the closest color I've found to the anthracite is the rustoleum wheel paint and while the cap looks like a perfect match, I know from past experience it has more metallic in it than the real ones do.

I am concerned about the durability of duplicolor in terms of taking wheels off/on. Lots of gravel roads in Iowa.

Its hard to know what the true color will look like. Plus I'm colorblind, so that sucks too.

Nice thieves. Most leave the rotors sitting on the ground.

Powder coat them, it makes it 2x as cool. They are sick rims, and will be uniquely colored over other TRD rims. Imho the silver is a bit brighter than it needs to be.

Here's one issue I've run into so far with DIY wheel paint. The gunmetal/graphite wheel paints are darker than the anthracite. The pics show the anthracite FJ wheel and a wheel someone painted with Duplicolor Graphite. Duplicolor job looks nice but maybe too dark. Rustoleum does make a steel color wheel paint that is lighter.

So here's what I did over the weekend. I used Dupli-color Medium charcoal metallic. I originally tried the graphite wheel paint, but too dark.

I don't have much to add, other than these wheels are what I'm looking at to eventually replace the stock ones. I've been considering upgrading to 265 tires first and exchanging wheels later - is it silly to not get wheels at the same time as tires? Will the shop charge an arm and a leg to remove the tires from the current rims and place them on new wheels?
