Mystery Switch

Hey I Bought my 2005 TRD sport a few weeks ago from a private owner and I noticed this tiny switch and dont know what it goes to.


any ideas?

 

That looks to be an alarm arming switch... though it is placed in a rather obvious place. I'd have mounted it up under the dash and a little more out of sight.

 

I've seen one of those as a remote start switch cutoff on another type SUV.

 

You do have some sort of "Toyota Security" (alarm?) switch near the mirror adjust switch.

 

If so, the "on" means.....?
and "off" means...?

As far as i know it doesnt have an aftermarket alarm system in it.

 

Ya im pretty sure it just has that.

 

What about contacting the individual that you purchased from and getting the straight dope? Let us know what you find

 

alright ill give him a call. I doubt that he'll know, had the truck for 4 years and only put 26,000 miles on it.

Just thought id ask the guys first.

 

That's a switch for an aftermarket alarm. See them on cars here all the time.

 

So should i keep it "ON"?

 

Turn it off, then try to set off the alarm. If the alarm doesn't work, turn the switch back on. If it is for the alarm, it's a bad location.

 

lol i have a mysterious switch exactly like that on the truck i bought. It was for my AVIC-D2 headunit, and it's to tell the unit that the parking brake is engaged, because for safety reasons you can't use the navigation on the unit while driving, but that's retarded because I have passengers to do it for me.

 

hmmm, alright well it seems like ill just have to do some experimenting with it.

Im leaning towards the alarm switch, because there are three different stickers on the window...

"Toyota VIP"
"This Vehicle Equiped with Toyota Theft-Deterrant System"
"Protected by Electronic Vehicle Security System"

 

I know a guy who has that exact same switch that he uses with an Ipod kit he got in order to disconnect the antenna from the stereo. That could be it as well.

 

Id get sawzal, cut through the kick panel and sheet metal and wherever else the wire from the switch leads me to.

 

Sawzall's for pansies. Use a plasma cutter.

Flipping the switch on and off didnt do anything when I was setting the alarm.

 

I think you should just take a labler and label it as "zee end of zee world button", and never question it/touch it again.

Cuz you know...the world will explode...why else would someone put a switch in their truck?
