I was suspicious of the term "Full Synthetic". After much googling and finding the correct google search term (which was "full synthetic oil"+definition) I found the truth.

My suspicion that Full Synthetic does not mean 100% synthetic was correct.

    Let the buyer beware.

    We know.

There are very few true full synthetics out there. But if the oil is less than 1% dino, does it matter?

Probably not but I suspect it's more like 90% dino.

I'm suspicious that the companies selling "Full Synthetic" don't tell us what's in it while AmsOil does.

Well Amsoil does make a true full synthetic, so they only have something to gain off dissing other companies lack there of.

Also where do you get 90% From what I have read it needs to be under 1% dino to be labeled full synthetic.

I found no legal definition of the term "full synthetic". The FTC says oil can be labeled "synthetic" if it's something like 10% synthetic. I would expect the companies making "Full Synthetic" would tell us what was in it if it wasn't the minimum amount of synthetic necessary to meet the legal definition and meet the standards.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Not all Amsoil products are full synthetic PAO based. Their OE and XL lines are all group 3 oils, same stuff Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, and Castrol Syntec are made from. Their Signature Series is the true PAO base synthetic. I currently run the XL in my truck and it does the job just fine, nothing wrong with group 3 oils at all. The XL is rated to 10k mile intervals and I run it out to 7500 OCI's with no complaints. Even if I went for the Signature Series I'd only run it 10k mile intervals max, I just can't bring myself to change the oil every 25k miles.

Beware of what? Name brand oil is fine and will not be the cause of any problem as long as it's changed responsibly.
