Two days ago we installed the ECGS bushing, so the whole driver side was torn down. Everything was fine for a couple days, but now this morning I started getting this clank coming from the driver side while making a right-hand turn. And it's only when I take a right turn. It has to be a pretty slow, hard turn for it to appear.

When I jump up and down on my side-steps to compress the suspension it doesn't do it.

So I'm not sure if it's steering related, or if right-hand turns compress the suspension in just the right way.

Any thoughts? It definitely has a tinny, twang sound to it. And it's louder in person than in the video. You can hear it - almost feel it - through the floorboard.

    Thanks

I would go back again and check to be sure all is tight as well as check to be sure eveything has clearance.

Check the brake caliper shield, It may have gotten bent when you working on everything. So it's possible it's contacting something when turning.

You're right, it did get bent a bit. After the install, pulling away from my friends house, I immediately heard this grinding sound. The shield was contacting the rotor. Took the tire off and bent it back a bit.

I'll go check it. Maybe we bent it back too far? Not sure what it could be hitting, but the sound definitely is tinny like that pos shield.

Yeah it sounds like the caliper shield to me. Had that happen after I changed out my front rotors and somehow I bent the shield a bit. Hopefully its a quick fix.

I went and took a quick look at it. The tolerance between the rotor and the tie rod for this shield is pretty gdamn tight. I wonder if buying a new one just wouldn't be easier. I'll play around with it though..... I hope that's all this is.

This might be it too. While mine doesn't have nearly the amount of play as in the video, I am able to push the boot against the housing enough for it to make that metal-on-metal *thunk* - just like the guy is doing in the video. If I test the passenger side, it has about the same amount of play, but I'm not able to get it to thunk. But, again, I don't have nearly the movement that the guy in the video has. I have almost no vertical movement. Just a little bit of back and forth.

I'm no mechanic, but what is it about sharp right turns that would force the boot to knock like this.

Yeah, it has to be nearly at full-lock for it to do it. Sooo... I guess it could be this too. Any more info or write-ups about this?

That guy is me, haha. Yea mine moves so much I was worried one of the snap rings inside the diff or the CV joint housing was broken/gone.

The way yours sounds in the video is more a tinny sound not a clank like the other person has with his axle. I would bet that its the shield coming in contact with something when you turn. Just bend the shield away from moving parts and try again.

Turn the truck full lock. Get under it and have a look where the spindle (well actually the bracket of the lower ball joint that bolts to the spindle) hits the lower control arm. You will see a lil almost half moon shaped piece that is up against the LCA, put grease on both those surfaces front and back on both driver n passenger side.

I just have OME coils on 887 springs in front. No other mods.

Yours does sound more like a clank.

Got back under there to look around. I pulled the brake shield back a little bit more I think - and either that made it worse, or it's just acting up a lot this afternoon. And now it's doing it for both right and left-hand turns (lol). And here's something else I've noticed - that you have to alternate turns for it to make the clunk. Meaning, if you just do all right-hand turns, it won't do it... but your next left turn will. And vice versa. So it's like something is maybe shifting...?

The steering doesn't really need to go to full lock either.

I'll try bending the brake shield back towards the rotor with a soft mallet or something. I also called the dealership down the street and ordered a new one, just in case.

It sounds like something is loose. I had a similar issue after an alignment and they didn't tighten the control arm bolts. I would crank the shit out of everything to be sure it is all tight. It doesn't take much

Very possible. The more I listen to it, the less I think it's the brake shield. I know in the video it sounds small and tinny, but while in the cab it sounds much more substantial. It's got a pretty good 'thunk' to it, and you can feel it in the floorboard. Plus it doesn't do it every turn consistently - and like I said above, it produces more noise if you're alternating turns. I guess that would make sense with something loose moving back and forth.

I made an appt with the dealership for Monday, but hoping I can get it looked at sooner. I don't have the tools for it.

This sounds closer to my situation. Let us know if the dealership can find anything loose/wrong. Without video evidence, I still suspect my inner CV joint housing is sliding back and forth...and then shifting up and down as I turn and go over bumps.

To install bushing I am assuming you removed CV right ?
If you did that did you check if CV nut is tighten to spec? Do you want to try tightening to spec...?

Wait, you have a knocking sound too while driving? I thought you had just made a video to show how loose your CV was.
